Gothic.

When one thinks of the term, images of dark, moody and edgy come to mind. One slips back in time and sights of black lipstick, pale skin and jet-black hair paired with tattoos and piercings.

There are so many ways one can quantify what’s beautiful and what’s not, but make no mistake there is something dangerously sexy about a gothic woman.

While that style was prevalent in the 1990’s, it has come back to prominence in the the form of “Suicide Girl”

For those who don’t know, a “Suicide Girl” is a term used to define a woman committing “social suicide” in defying normal standards of beauty by wearing dark makeup and sporting multiple tattoos and sporting a “dark” look contrary to the common blond-haired Barbie doll look found often across social media.

By doing so, Suicide Girls are defying the status quo in rebelling against those norms in defining their own beauty.

Dark, alternative, edgy, gothic. Whatever you want to associate what a Suicide Girl is, is undeniably dark and mesmerizing. One such woman who is leading the charge of “Suicide Girls” is Colorado-reared model and LA-based musician Dahlia Ray.

Ray, born and raised in the great Centennial State, is quickly becoming one of the hottest faces of the growing “Suicide Girl” movement thanks to her trademark dark sexy hair, eyes and sexy figure. The lead singer of the group, “Darling” is currently working on her debut EP and music video, which is expected to be out by summer/fall of this year.

Having made her modeling debut in 2018 in becoming a Suicide Girl, the lovely Ray is definitely a woman to keep in eye on in both modeling and music.

Below is my Q and A with the talented and dangerously sexy Mrs. Ray as we talk goth, being a Suicide Girl, life in Los Angeles and taking modeling in a darker and edgier direction.

Happy New Year! How did you spend it, and what did you do? Thank you! Happy New Year to you too! I was super boring haha. I went to a nice dinner, came home, and wrote down all of my New Years intentions. 

Any New Year’s resolutions? I wouldn’t call them resolutions per se, but rather just doubling down on the growth I made last year. Doubling down on self love, my sobriety, workouts, my art, my hard work. Leveling up if you will.

Tell us all a little about you? Well, I’m a huge nerd for starters. Haha. I find the most fun in staying home, reading new books, playing games on my PS4, writing, singing, practicing music, making art. I’m not a huge fan of going out to clubs. I moved to L.A. five years ago when i was 18, and have literally tried tooth and nail to make my dreams come true. I’m pretty down to earth and I feel that the most important thing in my life is my close friends and chosen family that choose to walk this journey of life with me.

What type of modeling do you do?(fashion, glamour, art, bikini, lingerie, etc.) I primarily do webcam modeling. I’ve been doing it for five years. It’s different from other types of modeling because everything is self-shot. I recently got into more alternative, lingerie, glamour, and art modeling and it’s been great!

You have a dark, edgy, sexy look! What is it about inked women that makes them so alluring–yet dangerous–at the same time to men? Hmmm.. I would say it’s because it’s out of the ordinary. The surprise factor. Artsy, dark, alternative women make you feel something deeper than just what’s on the surface of every day life. We don’t follow trends, we’re rebellious in most all of our actions, we’re not always predictable or easy to read. I think it keeps guys wondering, and on the edge of their seat, or on their toes. 🙂

For those who don’t know, what is a Suicide Girl? My definition, a Suicide Girl is someone who commits “social suicide” by coming together with similar women who break societal beauty norms. It’s basically one big, sexy sorority of alternative women who celebrate being different AND beautiful!

How long have you been one? I started my SG journey in October 2018.

I’m 42, and grew up on the 90’s when the dark goth look was all the rage, is that the look and style that inspired you?Nice! I wish I could have experienced that more! Yeah definitely. I’ve been into this look since I was a little girl. I’ve known since I was a toddler that I wanted to be covered in tattoos haha. My parents were rockers with tattoos and piercings and I wanted to be just like them.

How many tats do you have? I stopped counting but probably around 20. There’s so much room for more still!

Which one is your fave? My favorite is probably my Japanese traditional bat tattoo on my left shoulder. It was my first tattoo and was dedicated to my hero, my dad.

Any big plans or projects in the works for 2019? I’m currently working my buns off on my EP which is planned to be released soon. A music video as well. And I’m super stoked to be heading off on tour doing merch for some bands that I’m not allowed to talk about yet but are huge in the rock universe!

Define “Glamour Girl” what does it mean to you? I think it’s pretty self explanatory. We love glamour. The finer things in life. Looking and feeling sexy, confident, and beautiful.

Who inspired you to get into modeling? My mom did. She was pursuing a modeling career in Hollywood before I was born. She tragically passed away due to a drug overdose so I feel like I’m living out her dream for her in a way.

Thoughts on the rise in popularity of alternative/inked models on Instagram? I think it’s great! I love that tattoos and piercings are becoming a much normal part of society. I grew up in a super conservative home and felt like I couldn’t be myself AND be successful. But society is changing and self expression is evolving in such huge and extraordinary ways! It’s just so nice to know I can create my own success and decorate my canvas any way I want to.

Thoughts on the current #MeToo movement and how it’s effecting models, modeling and feminism. Ugh. Someone is probably going to hate me for saying this. Let me preface by saying that rape is NEVER okay. Never. It’s just not fucking cool to force someone to do something against their own will. I’m so sorry to ANY man or woman who has ever been a victim of rape or molestation or violence or abuse of any kind.

However, I think a lot of these trendy movements can get taken out of hand. It’s so easy to spread rumors or blow things out of proportion with media at our fingertips these days. I think accusations need to be investigated thoroughly. And I think that every movement needs to have the intention of bringing everyone back to a civil, middle ground. Sometimes I feel like people lose sight of the primary purpose and drive a HUGE stake of separation between society as a whole.

Can’t we all just get along?

Pumpkin spice, Salted Caramel or Peppermint Mocha? Ohhhh snap. Pumpkin Spice for days.

G-string, thong, frenchies or commando, which do you prefer? Thongs or g-strings. Whatever makes the booty look best. 😀

With Valentine’s Day recently passed, what advice would you give to men hoping to spice things up in the bedroom?Whisper dad jokes into her ear in a Latin accent. Haha. No but seriously, you can’t go wrong with being silly, and compliments go a long way. Tell her how sexy she looks! Also, there is this toy that the girl can use. It vibrates while the guy controls the levels and speed from his phone via blue tooth connection. Highly recommend. Just create an open space for your girl to explore her sexual energy. You are going be blown away!

Sexiest piece of lingerie you own? Or suggest a man to get his woman? I have so much lingerie it’s not even funny. Like baskets and baskets. And all of it is a lot of fun. My go-to is a short, sheer, black lace robe that doesn’t cover much. Underneath it I love to wear black lace, diamond studded bras and a matching thong. And don’t forget about sheer, black, thigh-high stockings!

I would say get your girl something that will make her feel like a goddess. Start with something that isn’t super complex and hard to figure out. A simple lace or gem studded bra-panty-stocking trio and a sexy little robe will do the trick!

What would you say is your best feature? I would say it’s my voice. It’s what keeps people coming back.

What makes you feel sexy? Dressing up and taking pictures of myself in sexy outfits and lingerie. 🙂

What exudes sexiness? A confident person who takes care of themselves emotionally, mentally, and physically. 

What attracts you most to a man? When he’s kind, smart, has his shit together, is talented in his own way, has goals and dreams, treats me as an equal, supports me and my dreams.

What is THE one hot fashion item that you must have/or get this season? I NEED those open-toe heels with fluff on the strap that covers the toes. Need. I think Dolls Kill sells them. WINK WINK.

Athleisure? Fashion or fitness fad? Definitely fashion. You never know when you’re going to get the opportunity to hit the gym or the mountain! Super comfortable too.

What fashion and fitness tips and trends do you have for looking good and staying in shape in 2019? When it comes to dieting, do it in moderation. Do everything in moderation. Even moderation! I’ve explored every diet imaginable and at different times, your body will call for different things.

Listen to your body. Don’t eat fast food. Eat a lot of veggies. Don’t underestimate the power of yoga. Try to stay away from too much gluten, refined sugar, normal table salt. Paleo diet ROCKS. I love mixing high intensity workouts with yoga. Creates an amazing balance.

What is one area that most people overlook—but should—pay attention to more in getting in shape? Diet is 90% of it. So much of the “healthy” food in our stores is total bullshit. Don’t count calories all the time. It makes things so non enjoyable. Instead, focus on getting food with ingredients you can pronounce. That’s why I say paleo is so good. It’s eating foods with whole, unrefined ingredients from the earth. Also, allow yourself a few cheat meals!

Fave music? Rock n Roll baby!

Sports: Any favorite teams, clubs and players? I was raised to be a Raiders fan but since I live in LA, I have Rams pride I guess. I honestly don’t watch sports unless I’m with friends that happen to be watching them.

What advice would you give to women aspiring to get into modeling? Go get it girl! Every time you get knocked down, get the fuck back up and keep going. Success only comes to those that persevere.
