The last Marvel film to hit theaters, Captain America: Civil War, has officially been released on DVD and Blu-ray. And with that, it is time to start looking ahead to the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. On November 4th of this year, Marvel fans will be introduced to a new character, as Benedict Cumberbatch takes on the title role in Doctor Strange.

Now I am just as excited for Doctor Strange as any other Marvel fan, and it has a little more to do than the film itself. Not only will the film bring us the next chapter of the MCU, but it is also as close to a sure bet as any to be the time we get our first glimpse of another MCU film, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2!

The Guardians will be the first Marvel film to hit in 2017, hitting theaters in on May 5th. They will be followed up by Spider-Man and Thor films later in the year. But more on them down the road, as we are here now to discuss our favorite group of space heroes. More specifically, we are here to discuss five things we hope to see when the first trailer drops, which will likely be around November 4th (But hopefully sooner!). So let’s get to it, shall we?

Baby Groot in action!

One of the best parts about the first Guardians film was the relationship between Rocket and Groot. And following Groot’s sacrifice towards the end of the first film, he will be appearing as “Baby Groot” in Volume 2. Given his dance moves seen during the credits of Guardians of the Galaxy, fans are chomping at the bit to see what else the little Groot can do!

The character is set to become an even bigger fan favorite than Groot himself. While he is still Groot, it is said he will not retain the memories of what happened. So seeing how he interacts with the team, and how he fights bad guys will be very entertaining. So here is to hope the first trailer will feature plenty of the little guy!

Kurt Russell’s Ego the Living Planet

When Kurt Russell was cast in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, many expected him to be cast in the role of Peter Quill’s father. Star-Lord’s father was always expected to play a major part in the sequel, so bringing Russell on board was seen as a safe guess for the part by most fans. And as it turns out, fans were correct!

But what most fans would have guessed in a million years is the actual identity of Russell’s character: Ego the Living Planet! Yes, that is right, Kurt Russell is playing a living planet. So it is completely understandable that fans would like to get a glimpse of how he is portrayed in the film. Obviously, he will have a human form, and he is Star-Lord’s father after all. But will he have any quirks considering he is a planet? It will just be very intriguing how they portray a living planet. But given director James Gunn’s dedication to his characters and Kurt Russells acting chops, I am positive it will work perfectly. But fans are still going to be very curious when the first trailer drops.

Any indication about Nebula’s role

Nebula did not get a ton of screentime in the first film. She was working as a henchwoman of sorts for Ronan, but also showed clear indications she could go off on her own. Then during the climactic battle, she cut off her hand and fell to parts unknown. That was the last we saw of Nebula.

Now come Volume 2, we have no idea how she is going to fit into the story. Will she be a baddie, hell bent on taking down her sister Gamora? Will she be a rogue agent who plays a third party in the main battle? Or will she join the good side, and become a guardian? Any one of these options is a possibility, and any appearance she makes in the trailer needs to be examined.

Nebula is a character that Gunn can have a lot of fun with given all of the possibilities they can take the character, and he is certain to develop the character more in this one. But until we see her in action, we have no indication as to which team she will be playing for this time around.

Mantis

I am going to keep this simple. Mantis is the newest member of the Guardians, and we have not seen much of her. Nor do we know much about her. So any glimpse of the character will be a very welcome sight.

Also, fans will be curious as to how she interacts with her fellow team members. Will she be all business, or will she have a more humorous side? Will she be very straight forward or will she like to use a lot of wordplay, which will only confuse Drax? It is these small types of character traits fans will be glad to see in the opening trailer.

Are the Ravengers set to be the main baddies?

As things stand now, we do not know who the main villain of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is? But we have been given some indication it may be the Ravengers, minus Yondu. Early indications are the Ravengers will be turning on Yondu after he does not get the stone from Peter at the end of the film. So the motivation is certainly there, but this writer needs to see it in action to completely believe the rumor they are the main baddies.

Given all the different personalities the Ravengers possess, plus having some known actors playing the role of different Ravengers does give some credence to the idea. But their actions in the trailer could make this much easier to figure out for sure. So here is hoping we get a chance to see some Ravengers involved in the first trailer.

An early taste of Awesome Mix Vol 2

With each new trailer, that drops fans will have their hopes that a song will be a part of it. Guardians of the Galaxy featured by far my favorite soundtrack of any movie, so needless to say hopes are (spirit in the) sky high for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. So even if we only get one song, it will still get fans pumped up.

Fans know James Gunn is going to do a tremendous job picking this playlist. But we want a sneak to peek now. With each passing day, we are another day closer to the release of the film, and that is one day closer to knowing the full soundtrack. But an early taste would be more than welcomed.

And of course, we want to see plenty of interaction between the characters we already know and love. Star-Lord, Gamora, Rocket, and Drax are all tremendous characters who can be highlighted in a trailer. Seeing more interactions between them is always welcome. Plus you know we will get plenty of humor when those four take the screen.

At the end of the day, I hope the first trailer supplies us with a little good, a little bad and a little bit of both. The film is highly anticipated amongst Marvel fans, as the first installment is thought to be one of the top three films in the MCU by the majority of fans. James Gunn does a fantastic job in making his audience feel for his characters, and I cannot wait for Vol 2. And with that, I am desperately waiting for a trailer so that it can hold me over until May of 2017.
