VENICE BEACH, CA — Beaches, palm trees and warm sun, this laid-back and trendy enclave northwest of downtown Los Angeles is the embodiment of SoCal cool.
Whether it is seeing skateboarding practicing their newest tricks on the Boardwalk, seeing movies film and shoot right in front of you or the beautiful waves of the Pacific Ocean crashing into the shore, Venice Beach is as picturesque as any beach in the world.
In this cool and hip neighborhood you see a combination of tourists, locals, movie stars, models and Hollywood mixing and rubbing elbows.
In a fast-paced city that is all glitz and glamour, and everyone is either in the media industry, Los Angeles is one of the most diverse and creative places to live. One such person is creative and standing out in the hustle and bustle of the West Coast is Silvia Kal.
A native of Madrid, Spain, the 5’7 Spanish stunner is truly a sight to behold upon meeting her. Whether it is her slim and athletic figure or simply mesmerizing set of golden eyes. Featured in magazines such as Esquire, GQ, Men’s Health and ELLE, if her classy and sexy looks don’t take your breath away upon meeting her, then her Spanish accent certainly will.
In addition to being a world-class model, Kal is also a host and actress who heads up SGG Public Relations, a bilingual public relations company that represents a wide variety of artists, actors and actresses.
In getting to know and collaborate with Ms. Kal over the last three years, a special friendship developed and blossomed as we bonded over our mutual love of former French-born Atletico Madrid forward, Antoine Greizmann, bantering over my Les Bleus of France and her beloved La Furia Roja of Spain and working with clients.
Beautiful. Classy. Gorgeous.
That is what I think of when my thoughts turn to this Madrid beauty.
In flying 2,343 miles from Cleveland to Los Angeles via Las Vegas and Oakland to finally meet Kal in person, I’m immediately greeted by the beautiful sight of her here on the West Coast in her body-filtering purple and black dress, golden eyes that radiate utter happiness in meeting a tall, dark and handsome stranger for the first time and a smile that’ll make any man fall in love instantly.
It was a truly special first meeting that turned out to be well worth the wait.
Before and after the shoot, we connected in talking about everything that we’ve chatted–as well as me speaking French and practicing some of my Spanish–about over the last three years, as if we’ve known each other forever, despite this being our initial encounter. Below is my Q and A with Silvia as we talk modeling, working in public relations, a little Griezmann and life in SoCal.

What is it about your country producing some of the most beautiful women in both entertainment and modeling? I think women in Spain are just natural, and there’s nothing more beautiful than been yourself without trying too hard to be something else.
For those who don’t know about you, tell us about SGG Public Relations and what your role is with them? I founded this PR agency a few years ago to help artists promote their work. As an artist I know how hard it is to get something done, so I think it’s important to offer this creative minds a platform to show the world what they are able to do.
What has been the best place you’ve been to and visited so far? I’ve traveled the world and have been to countless countries. I’m in love with Paris. It has a flavor I can’t describe and the architecture is stunning. There is so much art in that city. I also love the language. La Havana (Cuba) is also a very special place. To live, I love Los Angeles. It’s all about a healthy lifestyle with so many options and places to go. When I go out of town, no matter how much I’m enjoying the other city, I’m always happy to come back.
What kind of model are you? (IG, fitness, bikini, lingerie) I’m not trying to pursue a modeling career but I do work as a model because work comes my way and it’s very amusing. I’d say I’m a lifestyle model but I’ve done bikini modeling and work with many brands on Instagram. Acting is my real passion.
How long have you been modeling? I’ve modeled for a long time but never took it too serious because I always thought the career as a model is too short. Now it’s different.
What first inspired you to become one? I like the results, having beautiful photos that will stay forever or magazines you can look at when you turn 80. It’s a very enjoyable job. You get to work in different places each time with always very nice different groups of people.
As a model, do you feel that more can be done by those in the industry? Why and why not? I think we’ve experienced a tremendous progress. Nowadays you can see successful models at age 40 or 50, different shapes or features, and we all see the beauty in each of them. That’s absolutely wonderful.
It seems that a lot of models seem to cross over into public relations, or some time of PR-type of work, what is the connection between the two industries? When you know the industry from one side, is a lot easier to understand it from the other side, plus you have the connections and knowledge and you enjoy it because it’s very related.
As a model, and the recent #MeToo movement that is going on socially and culturally, what are your thoughts on it’s impact and influence in the modelling world? I personally haven’t had this kind of problems in the modeling world, I’ve had them in the acting world. I feel extremely disgusted by the pathetic men who try to use their power (or many times just their tittle because they are nobodies) to sleep with a woman. I’ve had experiences myself of men trying to get it that way making you waste your time, and I’ve heard countless stories from my friends. You realize your talent doesn’t matter anymore and it makes you want to give up. So I can’t be happier about this movement and I’m so thankful to the people who dared to start it and the women who came forward.
Where has been your favorite place to shoot? Always, a warm beautiful beach
What is the most exciting aspect of modeling? The places you go to, the people you meet, and the results you get.
Athleisure? Fashion or fitness fad? Fashion
Within the industry, who is your modeling inspiration? I always liked Cindy Crawford
What is your workout and fitness secret to staying in shape? I’ve danced since I was 3 and I love doing outdoors activities.
What would you say is your best feature? My eyes
Any future projects coming down the pipeline? A few, but I learnt not to talk about them until they come out because you never know…
Outside of modeling, what are your hobbies? Dancing, beach volleyball, long walks, beach, biking along the beach, and many others. There are so many things I like to do…
Sports question: Who are your favorite teams and clubs? I’m not really a fan of any team. I always want my country to win when it plays against other countries, but that’s it.
Hala Madrid! What are your thoughts on Ronaldo going to Juventus? I’d prefer him to stay in Spain. He’s an incredible player to have…
Atletico or Real? I don’t really care… But my dad likes Atletico
Griezmann or Ronaldo? I don’t know any of them in person and I don’t cheer for anyone in particular, so I guess whoever stays in Spain… Haha
What advice would you give to women aspiring to get into modeling? Don’t take rejection personal. Enjoy every moment as much as you can. Don’t hide your imperfections, make them a new beauty trend
