Introduction:
In her latest single, Hands, rising artist Kristina Menissov explores the raw emotions that come with breaking down the walls we build around ourselves and learning to connect with others. Recorded at Drew Right Music Inc., the song is a heartfelt reflection on the barriers that prevent true emotional connection. In this exclusive Q&A, Kristina shares the inspiration behind Hands, recounts her unforgettable experience recording with Andrew Lane and Denis Suvorov, and talks about the powerful message she hopes to convey through her music.
1. The single Hands is an upbeat dance track, yet it focuses on vulnerability and self-assurance. How did you approach merging these themes with the danceable rhythm of the song?
I really wanted Hands to reflect both the confidence and the vulnerability that we experience in relationships. The beat gives that uplifting, danceable energy, which represents confidence and freedom. At the same time, the lyrics tap into moments of being open and vulnerable, which adds depth to the track. Merging these themes with a rhythmic, upbeat tempo felt like the perfect way to create a balance—it’s fun to move to, but the message runs deeper than just a sweet voice, when you really listen to the words.
2. This is your 14th release, following singles like Crown and Potion. How has your music evolved over the years, and where does Hands fit into your overall artistic growth?
Over the years, my music has become a lot more personal. Earlier songs like Crown were more about empowerment in a broader sense, but with Potion and now Hands, I’ve started exploring more intimate themes, like connection and self-reflection. Hands is a continuation of that evolution. It’s playful and full of energy, but it also has a vulnerable side that reflects where I am today—balancing confidence with being open and real.
3. The concept of “genuine connection” plays a key role in Hands. Can you share a personal experience or moment that sparked this theme for you?
We have all felt that moment, when you realize that you’re in love, and you want to share everything with your soulmate, but you are probably also scared to get burned again…. That’s when I really began to reflect on the value of genuine connection—not just in relationships, but in life as a whole. It’s easy to get caught up in surface-level interactions, especially in this industry, but I realized the most important connections are those where you’re fully present and vulnerable. Simply being in love was a huge inspiration behind Hands. It’s about breaking down the barriers that prevent us from truly connecting with others.
4. Recording at Drew Right Music Inc with Lane must have created a unique energy in the studio. Can you share any memorable moments from the recording process?
The energy in the studio was electric! Andrew Lane and my vocal coach Denis Suvorov really know how to bring out the best in an artist, one of the most memorable moments was when finally, after finishing all of the technical aspects like choosing the best mic for me and doing the vocal warm up, we finally started taking the lead. At this point in the process, I just zoned out and instead of combing through, I went through an entire take without being stopped, I felt like I could do it all… of course we recorded more takes of lead vocal, double, ad libs and pads just to add different vocal layers, but I felt like on that first take, suddenly everything clicked. The emotion behind the song just came to life. It was a very organic process, full of collaboration and mutual understanding, which made recording Hands such a memorable experience.
