With the injury to Garrett Richards, the Los Angeles Angels season is in flux.
Richards was sensational for the Angels this season going 13-4 with 164 strikeouts and a 2.61 ERA.
However, all might not be lost for the playoff hopeful Angels. The Angels received a sensational performance on Thursday from Matt Shoemaker. Shoemaker was dominant for the Angels carrying a no-hitter through seven innings and leading the Angels to victory despite the loss of Richards a day earlier.
Shoemaker’s performance is exactly what the Angels needed to make some headway in the playoff run. Shoemaker has been a great piece for the team all year, and might solidify his spot in the Angels rotation.
Shoemaker has appeared in 21 games, 14 of which have been starts for the Angels this season, and has posted an 11-4 record with a 3.56 ERA.
In addition to the phenomenal play from Shoemaker, the Angels also acquired second baseman Gordon Beckham from the Chicago White Sox. Beckham will likely split time with current Angels second baseman Howie Kendrick. Beckham will be looking to rebound from his underwhelming season in Chicago.
He hit .221 and hit 7 home runs in 390 at bats.
