Teams ranging from the Chargers at 7 to the Lions at 21, Mike Williams has a wide draft range depending on the type of receiver teams want.
While teams like the Ravens, Titans, and Lions could use the size of Williams as a complement to the faster smaller receivers these teams have, the Chargers seem like a natural fit if they go wide receiver with their 7th pick.
General Manager of the Los Angeles Chargers Tom Telesco describes Mike Williams with this statement. [su_pullquote]“He’s tall with long arms and has really, really excellent speed,” Telesco said of Williams. “To get vertical on us, crossing routes, he can run away from people. His route running has really improved. He’s done a lot of work with that. He’s physically gifted, but he works really hard at it.”[/su_pullquote]. The Chargers historically have had success with bigger receiving targets and Phillip Rivers seems to favor them. Since 2006; Antonio Gates, Malcolm Floyd, and Vincent Jackson were all receiving leaders for the Chargers (over 1,000 yards) and were all over 6’4″ and over (Mike Williams height). Mike Williams could be a consistent 1,000 yard receiver for the Chargers and is an upgrade at receiver to play next to Keanan Allen and Travis Benjamin.
