J.K. Simmons is having a whirlwind of a start to 2015. The actor, who has already won a Golden Globe for his performance in Whiplash, and could nab an Academy Award, has been tabbed to host Saturday Night Live on January 31st.

Simmons has had quite the acting career, but many fail to realize his true brilliance. He is best known for his role as J. Jonah Jameson in the original Tobey Maquire Spider-Man films. He also had a starring roles in TNT’s hit drama The Closer and the widely acclaimed film Juno.

While he has had some very successful–and critically acclaimed–films, Simmons has never been nominated for a Golden Globe or Oscar which makes the nominations long overdue.

“An Oscar nomination. Wow. That is pretty darned cool,” he said in a statement shortly after nominations were announced.

However, despite all the acclaim he was gotten for Whiplash, Simmons biggest test will be hosting Saturday Night Live, which he is doing for the very first time. However, an actor as versatile as Simmons will no doubt succeed, not just on SNL, but at the Academy Awards as well.
