Isaiah Thomas is Too Much For Washington Wizards in 123-111 Win
The Boston Celtics led by All-Star Isaiah Thomas cruised to victory over the Washington Wizards after being down by 17 at the start of the game. Last month, Thomas lost his sister, Chyna Thomas in a fatal car crash, but the emotional strain seems to have no effect on the Boston star.
Thomas dropped 33 points along with nine assists, while the rest of the Celtics landed 19 3-pointers to push their way past Washington.
Before the game, Thomas had to fly away to go to his sister’s funeral, and they fly back in time for the game.
”I got in at 4 a.m.,” Thomas said of his second flight to Washington in two weeks. ”It’s tough, but it’s the playoffs so there are no excuses. I decided to play and I just tried to give it all for my team.”
Valiant words from a player who has already lost so much — including his tooth!
Other than Thomas’ big night, other players on the team also had a good game such as Jae Crowder finishing with 24 points and Al Horford netting 21 points.
At the start of the game, the Wizards were booming as they took a huge lead early on. However, they slowly began to lose it and then suddenly the Celtics were ahead and pulling away.
Bradley Beal had 27 points – the most for Washington that night. John Wall added an additional 20 along with 16 assists.
Markeif Morris, a starter and crucial part of the Wizards’ team left the game with an injury at the 11-minute mark, which could have been why the Wizards blew such a commanding lead.
”They were a little more aggressive than we were,” Beal said. ”Our defense slipped a little. We lacked some IQ and focus.”
Washington seemed to get a little over zealous during the game. The loss of Morris also contributed to their game 1 loss to the Celtics. Will the Wizards be able to take another commanding lead next game and keep it? Or will Boston take a 2-0 series lead? Only time will tell.
