In the last couple of weeks, there have been some rumblings of the Warriors possibility having a bit of a shake up. The rumor that’s going around is that the Warriors are looking to trade All-Star Klay Thompson as a way to clear some cap room. The Warriors have been wanting to clear cap space when they signed Kevin Durant over the summer. While it seems like the Warriors are looking to trade one of their All-Stars, there are rumors of the Warriors being linked to Nerlens Noel.

However, If the Warriors are serious of picking up the Power Forward from the Sixers, I can’t see it being for Klay Thompson in a straight up player for player deal. Noel would be a great contributor to the Warriors. There is a rumor going around about a three-team trade involving the Warriors, 76ers, and the Celtics. As the rumor goes it would send Klay Thompson to the Celtics for Avery Bradley, Jae Crowder, and a pick swap. How this would involve the 76ers is that they would end up getting the draft pick from the Warriors and since it was from Boston who got it from the Nets, one would suspect that is would be a high pick.
I would also like to make it clear that this is just a rumor that may not have any truth.
This trade would have a slew of benefits and disadvantages. One benefit is that it would provide the Warriors a rim protector and with how competitive the Western Conference happens to be, this would be crucial. However, there are also many reasons why this trade wouldn’t work and one of those reasons is Noel isn’t a perfect fit in Golden State. The Warriors already more than $65 million committed to approximately half of the team.
He fits on the court perfectly, just not on the balance sheet. You can make the argument that the only way this could happen is if the Warriors are willing to give up more players to the 76ers to clear up some space. I would also like to stress that this is a rumor that may not have validity and it should be interesting to see if anything does happen and where players land as we get rolling in the 2016 NBA season.
