LOS ANGELES – After a shocking 62-41 loss to the Arizona Sun Devils, the proverbial applesauce was finally be served in firing head coach Lane Kiffin.
Per media reports, the decision to fire Kiffin was made by USC athletic director, Pat Haden during the third quarter on Saturday and could not wait until sunrise in dismissing the former one-time assistant under former head coach Peter Carroll, . The reports would also go on to state that Kiffin was pulled off of the USC team bus and told of his termination at Los Angeles international Airport.
For a fan base that is accustomed to winning, and winning often, Kiffin’s firing is long overdue. After a 10-7 home loss to perennial conference doormat Washington State, the former head coach of the Oakland raiders and Tennessee Volunteers had all but worn out his welcome among the USC fan base and alumni.
Under Kiffin, the Trojans went 28-15 overall and were 3-2 and 0-2 in conference play, was 4-7 in his last 11 games.
Former USC defensive standout and current defensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos, Jack Del Rio is rumored to be the front-runner for the now-vacant head coach position.
(Updated 6:36 pm EST) Ed Orgeron named interim head coach, per ESPN)
