Coming off a Monday night debacle at home, the New Orleans Saints will head on the road in week 4 of the NFL season. The Saints lost 45-32 to the Atlanta Falcons on Monday Night Football a week ago, and now take on the San Diego Chargers. The Chargers fell for the second time on the season, as the Colts beat them in Indy by a score of 26-22. It is a battle of teams looking for a much-needed victory.
The Saints for one, have yet to put a notch in the win column this season. They have lost two shootouts at home and struggled to get anything going offensively on the road in another. Unfortunately for them this week, they will not be at home. The team simply does not play as well when it is the visiting team. Drew Brees can still sling it, but for some reason, he and the offense cannot get the ball rolling when they are away from New Orleans. We know their defense is not going to stop much, and the team I have no reason to believe any of this will change this week.
Meanwhile, the poor Chargers keep losing players to injury. Three weeks in, and three weeks of having a player go down for the entire season. And like the Saints, the club does not possess much of a defense. But with Philip Rivers and his crew at home, I think they put on a better showing than they did a week ago in Indy. I had high hopes for them a week ago, but being on the road appeared to hurt the team, who has looked their best in week two in their lone home game.
So if you have not figured it out by now, I am playing the home field advantage card in this game. The Saints had their worst game on the road this season, while the Chargers have had their best at home. I think the game underwhelms in terms of total points scored, much like the Saints week two game on the road against the Giants.
