The Frisco RoughRiders, Double-A affiliate to the Texas Rangers, shutout the Midland RockHounds in game one. Last night’s 5-0 victory was the first of a four-game series between the two teams. The RoughRiders dominated on all aspects of the game. Pitching, fielding, and hitting were all played out in Frisco’s favor.

Ariel Jurado, the RoughRiders starting pitcher, dominated from the hill. This is nothing new for him. He put together 6 2/3 innings of scoreless baseball. He walked none, and had four strikeouts. Jurado allowed just four hits in his recorded win. The Frisco bullpen continued the shutdown pitching performance. Shane McCain pitched 1.1 innings, allowing no hits. Reed Garret tossed 1.0 innings, also allowing no hits. Both relievers had one strikeout.

The bats were alive for the RoughRiders as well. In the second inning, Luke Tendler had an RBI triple, and Eric Aguilera sent a solo homerun over the wall, just left of center field. The Midland reliever was rattled as well, as the RoughRiders added three more runs in the seventh inning. These came from a triple by Scott Heineman, good for two RBIs, and a single from Jose Trevino, adding one more run across the plate.

Jose Trevino continued his famed poise from behind the plate, with several defensive showings. His leadership and report with the pitching staff has been key to the RoughRiders fantastic pitching performances of late. Isiah Kiner-Falefa had several clutch plays at third base. The 22-year-old was showing his athleticism and rocket-powered arm. Scott Heineman continued his offensive production, becoming a staple for the RoughRiders lineup.

Frisco now has three shutout performances in their 16 totals wins this season. Their last two victories each came with a shutout.

RoughRiders manager Joe Mikulik earned his 1,200th career win in last night’s victory. Frisco will look to continue their success tonight, as they take on the Midland RockHounds in the second matchup.

First pitch is at 7:05 PM CT, from Dr. Pepper Ballpark in Frisco, Texas.
