atlanta falcons

Now I’m no longer as big a football guy as I was in the past, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have an opinion on this year’s Super Bowl. I believe the Atlanta Falcons will win the Super Bowl for the first time in franchise history. I admittedly can’t throw a ton of numbers at you to prove my point, but with everything going on in sports over the past year, it’s the underdog’s time to shine.

In 2016 the Chicago Cubs won the World Series for the first time in 108 years. Yes, I had to throw some baseball in here. Their win ended the longest championship drought in sports history, and created a feel-good story that will forever be remembered, no matter what sport or team you follow. The Falcons are one of ten teams that have never won a Super Bowl, tied for the longest drought with 51 seasons. The New England Patriots’ last Super Bowl win was in 2014 against the Seattle Seahawks.

My football knowledge doesn’t stretch much farther than the fact that the Patriots finished the season 14-2, while the Falcons finished 11-5. However if there’s one thing I know from years of watching baseball, it’s that anything can happen over the course of one game. A team can have all the talent in the world but when they take the field along with the other team, it’s anyone’s guess what will happen in those four quarters or nine innings.

The football world needs a new name on the list of Super Bowl winners, and that’s why I believe it’s the Atlanta Falcons’ time to bring home the Vince Lombardi trophy.
