Kentucky rock band Saxony has released their latest single, “Taste of Your Love,” and it’s a bold step in a new direction for the group. Known for its blues-rock foundation, Saxony takes listeners on an unexpected journey with this track, which showcases Middle Eastern influences and the distinctive DADGAD guitar tuning—a tool historically used to craft complex, atmospheric compositions.
DADGAD tuning, often associated with Celtic music and fingerstyle guitarists, offers a more open and resonant sound compared to standard tuning. Popularized in the 1960s by artists such as Bert Jansch and later embraced by rock legends like Jimmy Page on tracks such as “White Summer/Black Mountain Side,” DADGAD allows guitarists to explore non-traditional scales and modal harmonies. Saxony uses this tuning to great effect in “Taste of Your Love,” creating a hauntingly exotic backdrop that diverges from conventional Western melodies.
“We wanted to challenge ourselves and break out of the usual formulas,” the band explains. “DADGAD gave us the freedom to experiment and explore sounds that we hadn’t tapped into before. It’s a versatile tuning that lent itself perfectly to the Middle Eastern influences we wanted to incorporate.”
The song’s harmonies and rhythm are equally noteworthy, with the drums taking a leading role that commands attention from the first beat. This percussive prominence adds a driving force to the track, creating a dynamic interplay with the guitar’s intricate textures. The result is a sound that feels both grounded and otherworldly—a perfect reflection of Saxony’s evolution as artists.
