It’s an exciting time for Shinedown fans as the band released two new singles recently Devil and The Human Radio while their new album Attention Attention is set to get released on May 4th.

Shinedown’s lead singer Brent Smith is widely considered by many as one of the best vocalists in hard rock. At live shows he’s a tremendous story-teller.  It’s easy to see how there’s a number of top 10 lists of their best songs.

What is more difficult is coming up with songs that often get overlooked. So here’s a list of the 10 most underrated songs by Shinedown:

10.Fly From The Inside  – (Leave a Whisper)

The song gets overshadowed by Simple Man, Burning Bright and 45. What stands out the most are the lyrics from the beginning almost in a whisper “here’s the weight of the world on my shoulders.” Yet what seals the songs greatness is “I can’t escape the pain, I can’t control the rage, Sometimes I think that I’m gonna go insane, I’m not against what’s right, I’m not for what’s wrong, I’m just making my way and I’m gone.”

9.  I Dare You – (Us and Them)

Shinedown’s opening lyrics are incredible and I Dare You is right up among the best in that regards.

8.  Breaking Inside – (The Sound of Madness)

Opening lyrics again draws the listener in “I caught a chill and it’s still frozen on my skin. I think about why I’m alone, by myself. No one else to explain how far do I go? No one knows if the end is so much better why don’t we just live forever? Don’t tell me that I’m the last one in line. Don’t tell me I’m the I’m too late this time.”

7. Misfits – (Threat to Survival)

The chorus stands out in this song. “They called us crazy cause we never fit in, we never thought of keeping up with their trends. It didn’t matter that we weren’t on the list. Cause we were misfits, we were misfits.”

6. Lost in the Crowd (Leave a Whisper)

For any other band that is song gets stuck on repeat. With Shinedown it’s underappreciated.

5.  The Crow and the Butterfly – (The Sound of Madness)

While the lyrics are great, the guitar solo is excellent.

4. My Name Is (Wearing Me Out) – (Amaryllis)

A song that is truly relatable especially for those who got bullied. The opening lyrics say it perfectly “my name is worthless, like you told me I once was, my name is empty cause you drained away the love, my name is searching since you stole my only soul, my name is hatred and the reasons we both know. Worthless, empty, searching, hatred. Who am I right now?”

3.  For My Sake (Amaryllis)

Again the lyrics are incredible especially “a paradox, the key drops. I’m at it fast, but what you lost was me. For my sake please stop slowing me down, stop holding me up, we’re making a scence and that’s enough. Let’s be honest, your promise was never meant to last.”

2. Beyond The Sun (Us and Them)

A great song that gets overlooked and has a Metallica vibe to it.

1.  What A Shame (The Sound of Madness)

Is it possible for a song to get put on a top 10 best list and still get underrated? The answer is without a doubt, yes. It’s a great song with an outstanding message and that it is shameful to judge someone based on assumptions.
