LIVERPOOL (UK) – Thanks to a 5-1 thrashing of Arsenal, Liverpool has made the 2013-2014 Premier League campaign one to remember.
Before the season even started, every soccer analyst predicted either Manchester City or Chelsea to win the title. After the first game of the season no one even considered Arsenal a true contender. As time went passed, Manchester City and Chelsea started dropping points and it was Liverpool and Arsenal who looked like the best teams in the Premier League.
Once City and Chelsea started finding their form they became the two best teams in the Premier League, but could they have found it too late?
Currently, Chelsea and City sit first and third with 57 and 54 points, with Arsenal second at 56.
They are not the super clubs they were projected to be at the start of the season. Both Chelsea and City have dropped a total of 21 points this season. Right now Liverpool now sits in the perfect place.
Liverpool has played every team inside the top six away from home. Given Liverpool’s superb form this season while playing at Anfield, they are in luck. Liverpool gets the privilege to host Chelsea, City and Tottenham still this season.
This is all during the time where Chelsea, Manchester City, and Arsenal have to play in the Champions League.
Liverpool also has to play Manchester United, who has been in horrendous form this season, who is also competing in Champions League Football. While these games are going on, Liverpool are slowly getting back their first team starters like Lucas Leiva, Glen Johnson, Daniel Agger, Jose Enrique, and Mamadou Sakho.
Liverpool’s weakest part this season has been its defense, but considering these players are quality starting defenders or defensive minded players, Liverpool should be stronger than ever.
Look at how Liverpool thrashed—then table leader—Arsenal and Merseyside derby rival, Everton at home without these key players.
Considering Liverpool has been in great form against top quality teams, key players are coming back, and the absence of European football, Liverpool are in a great position to be the dark horse of the Premier League.
