The Washington Redskins have a chance at making the playoffs for the second consecutive year. That is something they have not in quite some time. That chance took a shot in a loss to the Carolina Panthers on Monday night. They are currently the eighth seed looking up at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Can they still make it? Yes, and here is how.
First of all, let us talk about week 16 only. The Washington Redskins can be eliminated from the playoffs in this week. There are 3 possible scenarios that this can happen.
- Redskins lose to the Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers beat the Minnesota Vikings
- Redskins lose to the Bears and Buccaneers beat or tie the New Orleans Saints
- Redskins and Bears tie and the Buccaneers beat the Saints.

Here is how the Redskins can get back into the sixth seed after the action in week 16. If the Washington Redskins beat the Chicago Bears, and the Minnesota Vikings beat the Green Bay Packers, and the New Orleans Saints beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers then the Washington Redskins would regain the sixth seed after week 16 action is over.
There is also a scenario that involves the Monday game between the Lions and Cowboys. That would involve moving to week 17 and the game between the Packers and Lions being for the NFC North title. If the Packers beat the Vikings on Saturday, then Redskins fan would then again have to root for their arch-rival Dallas Cowboys. A Lions loss would set up a week 17 game for the NFC North title. That would also help the Redskins get into the playoffs. If the Lions were to lose their final two games and the Buccaneers lose at least one of their last two the Redskins would get the sixth seed as well.
The key to the whole thing is the Washington Redskins going 2-0 in their final two games. If that does not happen, then they can forget about it. So as in Dumb and Dumber, “so you’re telling me there’s a chance!” Yes, Redskins fans there is a chance.
