The scientific side of the world that we live in can be difficult to understand. Things like electromagnetic waves are present all around us, at all times, from a variety of sources that you might not even be aware of. I’m sure everyone has heard of electromagnetic radiation or EMF at some point or other, but what is it really? How does it affect us? Are there things we an do to reduce the risk, keep reading to find out.

What are EMFs?

Electromagnetic fields or electromagnetic radiation put very simply are waves that are emitted by a range of things in our environment every single day. This can be anything from a microwave to a radio to a cell phone to an actual x-ray. The possibilities of what rays or waves you are coming in contact with are rather broad.

EMF are present in everyday life and if you are part of normal society, or part of a society that uses a range of creature comforts that we have all grown accustomed to, odds are you are coming in contact with electromagnetic fields and waves that you might not be aware of.

Electromagnetic radiation comes from a huge range of sources that are both man made and natural and that are not something you can avoid without making an effort to avoid them. Electromagnetic rays are a form of energy that are used to make things work. Things like microwaves are used to heat food, waves that come from our wireless phones and electronics, and even x-rays that allow us to see through our skin to our bones are all electromagnetic rays.

What is the EMF Spectrum?

Electromagnetic radiation exists on a spectrum that is organized by the length of the waves. These waves are all considered to be electromagnetic radiation, but depending on where they fall on the spectrum, they do have a different effect on the human body. Radios, microwaves and infrared waves are all long-length waves.

The visible light spectrum is even considered to be electromagnetic waves. The light from the sun are also electromagnetic waves. Short-length waves are things like gamma rays or radiation from radioactive items, or x-rays. The short waves are the ones that have the ability to change the structure and the overall health of cells in human bodies.

What Damage Can EMF Cause?

EMF rays have the ability to change and damage the body in a few different ways. First, things like x-rays and gamma rays can change the structure of the human cell forever. They can cause major damage that can lead to tons of adverse effects on the body. Damage that might be caused by EMF can be things like dizziness, headaches, insomnia, changes in the actual structure of the cells and more.

Now, with long-length waves, the damage is not going to be as quick or even as damaging as damage from short waves. For longer waves to damage the cell, you do have to be exposed for a long period of time, and you do have to have consistent exposure. With short-length waves the damage can be almost immediate, and it is going to be much worse overall.
