The last thing you want is to get out there and not have everything you need. Read on below to learn about some of the most essential supplies that are needed.
EMS Bags
Having bags while you’re on the job is probably the most essential piece of supplies you will need. The reason EMS bags for first responders are necessary is because they often have everything you will need in them tucked away into specific portions of the bag. This is the first thing you will grab when you get out of your vehicle to respond to the scene.
Without it, you’re not going to be able to do what you need to do.
Splint
When first responders arrive on the scene of an emergency they never know what they’re going to see or encounter. A splint is another piece of supplies that’s needed because it can be used to set broken bones and joints.
When bones that are broken aren’t kept still before transporting someone to a hospital it can cause internal injury or fracture more severely because it wasn’t kept still. Splints don’t have to take up a massive amount of room in your EMS bag, but you do need some that can quickly be grabbed and put to use when needed.
Tourniquet
EMS sees several different tragedies every single day and some of them people are bleeding or have wounds that are bleeding profusely. In this scenario, the EMS needs to locate their tourniquet and compress the vein or artery to stop the bleeding because too much blood loss and someone can and will die.
Typically when someone is using a tourniquet to compress a vein or artery it’s a bandage or rubber cord that is used to tighten around the affected appendage. This will be essential to stop the bleeding until the person who is wounded is able to receive the extensive medical attention they need.
