The Dominican Republic.
If there was a proverbial paradise on Earth, this Caribbean country of roughly 10.4 million might be it.
Thanks to it’s array of breath-taking vistas of sand, beaches and palm trees, it has long been a popular vacation and getaway for many tourists worldwide. It’s capital–and largest city–Santo Domingo–became the site of the first permanent European settlement in the New World, and the oldest continuously inhabited city in the Americas.
After declaring independence from Spain in 1821, the Dominican Republic would experience a series of internal wars and conflicts before finally stabilizing in 1996.
While many look at it as just as a vacation spot, the DR has a long, rich and vibrant history all its own, and thanks to sports–most notably baseball–it would become known for more than its gorgeous landscape.
Notable MLB All-Stars such as Albert Pujois, Jose Bautista, Adrian Beltre, Robinson Cano, Edwin Encarnacion and Vladimir Guerrero are just some of the players to come from this baseball hotbed over the years.
In the world of entertainment and modeling, Hollywood A-listers such as Michelle Rodriguez and models such as Arlenis Sosa, Adele de la Cruz and Yadira Geara.
Thanks to her dark, exotic and sultry looks and curves, Elecia Mateo may be the hottest new thing to come out of the Dominican since sanchocho!
A Dominican actress and model born on Christmas Eve, Elecia has a degree in International Relations, and dreamed of modeling since she was little, which led her to participate for the first time in the beauty contest Miss Dominican Republic in 2005, and in 2007 in Miss Dominican World.
While she did not win, both beauty contents prepared her for modeling and led her to be the image of important brands such as Ron Macoris or Ron Brugal. Elecia starred in commercials for brands such as Brahma beer, or Presidente, and the national and international videos of Jhoel and Randy Shrille, among others.
In 2013, Elecia decided to go further and produced her first calendar in which she also appeared as a model. The calendar was successfully produced for 5 years and part of these benefits were donated to charities.
Her career continued to grow, and in 2015, started to work in Dominican TV in the successful show ‘El Escandalo del 13’.
Now, Elecia has gone from modeling to acting, where we have already seen her on the big screen. She has participated in projects such as ‘Puesto Pa Mi’, ‘Black Is The New Brown’, ‘Lotman’, or ‘Fantastic’.
Outside of modeling, Elecia Mateo practices CrossFit and boxing to stay fit and exercises every day and has a very healthy lifestyle. Below is my Q and A with Elecia as we talk modeling, her beautiful homeland, baseball and her hopes of being her talents to the States.
