The women wrestlers have really made strides in the last few years. I could remember a time when the women were seen as a sideshow or being used for their looks. However, the women wrestlers of the WWE have been taken a lot more seriously over the last few years.
While it seems the women of the WWE have been making history a lot as of late, they can now add another feat to women wrestling. This week’s episode of RAW, Smackdown, and NXT will all have the women be the main events for each show. On RAW, Sasha Banks winning the gauntlet to become #1 contender for the WWE Raw Woman’s title at Great Balls of Fire, Smackdown saw the 2nd Woman’s Money in the Bank in which Carmella regained her briefcase, and NXT will see Asuka defend her title against Nikki Cross in a Last Man Standing match for the NXT Woman’s title. All of these are very big because it has only been recent that women have been given the opportunity to be the last match.
Also, the WWE has the Mae Young Classic happening soon and this could lead to a possible woman’s Royal Rumble match sometime down the road. They are going to be adding close to 35 more women wrestlers and this could help add a ton of depth to the woman’s division of RAW, Smackdown, and NXT.
I am very happy to finally see the women wrestlers of the WWE be looked at for more than their looks. Yes, many of them have looked, but wrestling fans are seeing wrestlers like Becky Lynch, Sasha Banks, Bayley, Carmella, Alexa Bliss, and others finally get the limelight of being a side show off of them. They will only continue to climb from there and I wouldn’t be surprised if they end up headlining more pay-per-views and eventually WrestleMania.
There is nothing but bright horizons coming for the women wrestlers of RAW, Smackdown and NXT.
