As the kids say these days, long hair don’t care. Thanks to her trademark Afro and killer curves, UK-based social personality, reality star, model and influencer Imani Evans is changing the way we look at both.
In this feature, we catch up with the other half of Madd’s mother-daughter duo in the curvaceous 25-year-old as we talk about her travels, most embarrassing moments and learning to embrace her body.
Name: Imani Evans. Imani is a swahili name and it means ‘Faith’. My Dad is half Nigerian and wanted me to have a traditional Nigerian name but him and Mum argued for months because she didn’t like any! In the end they went with a Swahili name and I like to think that it gave me a good positive start to life as it has such a beautiful meaning.

Why did you decide to start Madd with your mother? My mum and I have always been a Mother And Daughter Duo. Our bond is as strong as it gets and I really cherish that. We do everything together and I thought that everyone else had the same relationship with their Mum’s until I learnt otherwise by fans of ‘The Kitchen’ which was the first TV show we did together.
So many women and young girls got in touch saying they wanted to be closer to their Mums or daughters.
This inspired us to start our #MADD movement which promotes a healthy bond between mothers and daughters. I wanted to show girls that your Mum really can and should be your best friend! There’s nothing embarrassing about going out with your Mum, asking her for advice and shower her off to your friends! I understand that some people may not get along with their Mum’s but I think it’s a relationship worth working on.
Tell us where you want your journey to lead? We want to continue inspiring women by putting on our own events next year that will be a safe loving environment for us all to come together and discuss tops such as love, heartbreak, confidence and success. We are also writing a book which is a women’s guide to everything, it’s a lighthearted easy read that every female will benefit from having.
Tell me about the most interesting place you’ve ever travelled to? I went to the Ice Hotel in Norway and it was the most incredible experience of my life. It was a huge igloo in the middle of nowhere and every year it melts and they create a new one with different designs. Everything was made of ice, even the bed! Of course it was cold but not as cold as I thought it would be.
They provide reindeer skins to sleep on as well as thermal sleeping bags! If you can’t cope with the extreme whether conditions then you can leave an go across to the warm hotel which has a log fire and cosy sofas. The best part of my trip to Norway was dog sledding through miles of snow, I love dogs and the huskys are beautiful! I’ve been wanting to go back for so long now but I cam’t seem to convince my friends as they prefer beach holidays!
Tell me about your most embarrassing moment? It was actually last night. I was out at a comedy show and then stayed for the after party. The music was on point and I was really getting into my groove in typical Imani style, hair flicks and everything! Suddenly, I flicked a little too hard and fell on the floor! I got straight back up and decided not to even look around because it was better to carry on dancing than to see peoples reactions, I think I recovered pretty well considering.
You have many female followers is it because of your hairstyles and does it take long to maintain? My social media following is 80% women that love, embrace and celebrate natural afro hair. I love that I get to connect with so many like minded individuals from all over the world. I have a theme of empowerment across my social media and I believe that’s what people are attracted too as well as my big hair selfies! I don’t spend too much time on my hair but I do oil it daily and comb it through before bed. The hardest thing about having a huge afro is washing the damn thing! Now that’s what takes all day. I absolutely dread wash day but so I wash my hair every few weeks and stay clear from any products that could leave residue such as hairsprays or gels.
So Imani would you ever take up hair modelling? Hair modelling would be a dream of mine that I do hope comes true! There are so many amazing hair companies out there that I would love to work with such as L’Oreal, Hairfinity, ORS, Dark n lovely and Pinks cosmetics. I would also love to get into Lingerie modelling as since I’ve recently fully accepted my body.
I want to share that confidence with other women who are struggling. Not only has my hair been a talking point in my life, my natural HH boobs have too! I use to hide them away and feel really self conscious but now I refuse to waste another day not fully accepting who I am and what I have. Hair modelling and Lingerie modelling will be next on my agenda.
What type of men are you attracted to? I’m attracted to a gentleman, the bad boy type doesn’t appeal to me in the slightest. I like a man that is family orientated, caring, loyal, faithful and respectful. He needs to stand next to me, not in front because I don’t follow and not behind because neither should he.
I believe in two equals in a relationship and a strong man won’t be intimidated by that. I think it’s cute when a guy actually listens to the things you say and takes it all in. A lot of people don’t listen anymore because they are too busy doing all the talking.
Are you single or is there a lucky guy? The only time I will be putting out my relationship status on social media is when I have a ring on my 3rd finger of my left hand!
Dog or Cat? Dogs 100%! I have the most amazing dog and she’s a rough collie! Her name is Queen I’m honestly obsessed with her. She’s like my dog daughter and I wouldn’t change her for the world! I’m not the biggest fan of cats, they are just very MEH!
