DALLAS- Could the Cleveland Browns shock the NFL and draft N.C. State defensive end Bradley Chubb? He is physical like Myles Garrett. This is the kind of duo that can make life miserable for quarterbacks. There is almost a unanimous consensus that Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield will be the first overall pick because the Browns need a passer that will consistently throw touchdowns. Some experts think USC quarterback Sam Darnold will go first overall.
Why should the Browns pick another defensive end with the first pick? The idea is to continue the build like Seattle plan that is already in effect. The Browns are already on their way to doing that. The selections of Garrett, Christian Kirksey, Larry Ogunjobi, Danny Shelton, Carl Nassib and Emmanuel Ogbah give us some idea of what the Browns plan to do.
Chubb is another physical pass rusher that is a weapon for any defense. He is also a dominant run stopper. Chubb will sack opposing quarterbacks at will and tackle running backs behind the line of scrimmage consistently. He is also a big hitter. His play style mirrors Garrett’s. He possesses great speed which is uncommon for a player who is 6-4, 275 pounds. Chubb will likely rely on his outstanding power moves to maul down offensive lineman. The Browns have a great opportunity to assemble the AFC North’s most feared defense.
Selecting Chubb is a better option than signing Ezekiel Ansah. Cleveland can save cap space to improve the offense. It also makes the Browns avoid having Garrett and Ansah swap positions.
It may not seem that obvious now, but if this team keeps drafting the top defensive prospects while signing top-tier offensive free agents, a quick and sudden rise will happen.
All Time Greats
Chubb has the chance to become a legend. After looking at the game film, it’s an easy and not so audacious claim that he will become one of the all time greats. Chubb can be as good as the best defensive ends of all time such as Jason Taylor, Michael Strahan, Ed “Too Tall” Jones, Howie Long and Reggie White.
