With the 2024 NFL season about to begin. It has become that time of year for Fantasy Football drafts. So once again if you play in a free league for money, here is a look at the five quarterbacks to avoid.

Atlanta Falcons: Kirk Cousins

During the 2024 NFL Draft the Falcons made an interesting selection with the no.8 pick by taking quarterback Michael Penix Jr out of the University of Washington. This was done after signing former Minnesota Viking Kirk Cousins to a four-year $180 million contract.

While it is obvious that Penix Jr is the future, his time may come sooner rather than later. Cousins who will turn 36 before the season begins is coming off a torn Achilles and he no longer has the luxury of throwing the football to the no.1 receiver in the NFL, Justin Jefferson.

New York Giants: Daniel Jones

Jones was given a four-year $160 million contract extension after having his best season in 2022. Which is when he limited his interceptions to only five in 16 games, he only threw 15 touchdowns yet also had seven rushing touchdowns.

His 2023 was dreadful before it ended with him suffering a torn ACL. At the time the Giants were 1-5 and he had thrown only two touchdown passes to six interceptions. Another issue for the Giants is the lack of talent at running back especially with Saquon Barkley signing with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Indianapolis Colts: Anthony Richardson

His rookie season ended early due to injury and in college did not have much starting experience with only 12 starts for the University of Florida. He also threw for only 17 touchdown and threw nine interceptions, and his completion percentage was 53.8 percent.

Richardson is a take at your own risk pick.

Seattle Seahawks: Geno Smith

Reports are indicating Smith has approached the Seahawks about a contract extension. After an out of nowhere season in 2022, his 2023 season saw his completion percentage drop by 5.1 percent, he threw for 658 fewer yards though he did miss two games, and threw for 10 less touchdowns.

Carolina Panthers: Bryce Young

The Panthers will once again struggle to win games. In 2023, Young threw for 2,877 yards yet threw only 11 touchdown passes to go along with 10 interceptions. While he did run for 253 yards it was only in 39 attempts.

Carolina did draft wide receiver Xavier Legette with the 32nd pick in the first round and in the fourth tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders with the 101st pick. Also, wide receiver Diontae Johnson was acquired from the Pittsburgh Steelers.

For Young though the key to a better season in 2024, is the health of running back Jonathan Brooks who was taken in the second-round and is recovering from a torn ACL. Still at this point the Panther second year quarterback is not worth taking a flyer on yet.
