Amell stars in the highly-successful CW series, Arrow. The show is based off of the popular DC Comics character. Amell plays the lead role of Oliver Queen, a billionaire by day, but a vigilante by night. Arrow is one of CW’s highest rated shows averaging about two million viewers per week.
The 33-year-old Amell was born in Toronto, Canada, and has become a star in American pop culture with his portrayal of Queen. His first major role was in another CW hit show, The Vampire Diaries, which he played a werewolf.
As a result of his stint on Vampire Diaries, Amell was able to land recurring roles on shows such as Private Practice and Hung. He has also done voice over work for the hit video game, Injustice: Gods Among Us, voicing his signature role of Green Arrow.
With the success of Arrow giving Amell mass exposure the chance to star in more high profile Hollywood projects is on the horizon, and he just landed his first signature film role.
It was recently announced that Amell will play Casey Jones in the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sequel due out in 2016.
It’s good exposure for Amell, as the first incarnation of Paramount’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles drew $191 million at the box office. The role will give Amell a chance to show off his acting to a much border audience than that of Arrow, with the hopes it might help him branch out and grow as an actor.
Amell had the following to say at the 2015 FanExpo Vancouver.
“As much as I enjoy playing Oliver Queen it is very important to me to stretch out a little bit. And believe me, I know I’m playing another vigilante. I know this! You’re going to have to trust me when I say that Casey Jones is different from Oliver Queen, but filming a big feature film is really differ than filming a television show.”
So, get from under that rock, because whether it’s television or film, we must embrace Stephen Amell as one of the entertainment world’s best actors.
