There will be no Ryan Fitzpatrick this week in the Meadowlands. The Baltimore Ravens will fly to New Jersey and take on the New York Jets and their new quarterback. The Ravens were at Metlife Stadium a week ago, and lost their third straight to the New York Giants in a controversial game. The Jets have lost four straight in week six, this time on Monday night in Arizona.
For the Ravens, things just are not going right these days. The team cannot seem to find a way to win, and even the refs are not in their favor. The injuries are starting to pile up, as the team had several defensive players go down in the Giants game. Then news came out that Joe Flacco is missing practice with a shoulder issue. So the club is trending downward, and there are not many signs for hope as they move forward.
The Jets find themselves in a very similar situation. Following weeks of terrible play from Ryan Fitzpatrick, the team has decided to turn to Geno Smith. Not exactly a sign of hope. Receiver Eric Decker is done for the season. Their defense can bring some pressure, but their secondary is brutally awful. If they can bring the pressure on Flacco (or Mallett), they should at least stay in the game.
So which of these two under-performing teams will turn things around in week seven? Neither team gives us reasons to believe, so I am going to have to pick the lesser of two evils. Since I have absolutely no faith in Geno Smith, I am going to have to go with the Ravens in this one.
