A pair of third place teams in their respective divisions will be squaring off against each other during this week’s slate of NFL action. The AFC East’s Buffalo Bills will head to Ohio where they will take on the AFC North’s Cincinnati Bengals. The Bills are coming off a bye, which followed a 31-25 road loss to the Seattle Seahawks as they continued to struggle. The Bengals have not had much success lately either, with a loss coming to the New York Giants a week ago.

Prior to the Bills’ bye in week 10, the team lost three straight games. So the question is, will the bye week help Rex Ryan’s team? The team does have a pretty decent defense, and an offense that tends to run through LeSean “Shady” McCoy. Their wide receiving corps has been banged up with injuries and if the team wishes to pull one out against Cincy, the run game is going to have to be a key. Opposing team’s have had fairly moderate success against the Bengals defense, which should bode well for the Bills. The team is 2-3 on the road, which is not a confidence builder, however.

Oh, how the Bengals frustrate me. I usually guess right with them, but thanks to Marvin Lewis, they are always one of those teams that the spread truly comes into play. My general rule is to pick against them if they are favored and pick them when they are getting the points. But this week sees them with a small spread against a team that I am not that crazy about. So I really want to pick the Bengals given they are playing at home, where they are 2-1 this season. But my gut tells me a Rex Ryan team coming off a bye and the Bengals laying points is not a good combination. So I need to default to my usual strategy for this one.
