Week seven NFL action will feature a battle of AFC East teams. And the New York Jets and New England Patriots are not involved. That means it will be the Buffalo Bills traveling south to take on the Miami Dolphins. The Bills are riding high, as they won their fourth straight last week in a win at home against the San Francisco 49ers. The Dolphins had a monster win of their own last week, as they destroyed the Pittsburgh Steelers by a score of 30-15 at home.
The Bills have been on a serious roll. They have been living off of their defense and strong games from running back LeSean McCoy. Unfortunately for Buffalo, it sounds like McCoy will be sitting out this week with a hamstring issue. His replacement however, Mike Gillislee has looked solid this season, and has scored touchdowns in two straight games. On the season, he is averaging 6.9 yards a carry. So even if Shady cannot go, the running game should remain strong. Pair that with the strong defense, and the Bills should be set up to continue their strong play.
The Dolphins had been struggling all season. But last week running back Jay Ajayi burst onto the scene with a monster game against the Steelers defense. However, the Steelers’ defense is not nearly as strong as the Buffalo unit. Given the struggles of the Miami offensive line all season prior to a week ago, I am not putting much faith in them this week. They do not rank better than 20th in any major offensive statistic, and their defense is nothing special. The Bills have a better unit on both sides of the ball based on the play of the season as a whole.
So I am chalking last week’s monster game up to the Steelers’ inability to tackle on defense. Things will not be as easy against the Bills this week for Miami, so look for them to have some trouble putting up points. I’ll take the Bills and the under.
