WASHINGTON, D.C. With the heightened tensions of the Russia-Ukraine conflict going on in the background, DC Fashion Week brought a much-needed—and colorful—reprieve.
Known more for being the home of Brooks Brothers, blue and gray suits worn by much of the politicians and lobbyists that call the DMV home, DCFW showed that Washington D.C. does have some colorful style and flair.
While Washington will never be mistaken for fashion mecca’s such as New York, London, Paris, Milan and even Miami, what D.C. does bring is proximity to power.
If you ever watched Netflix’s acclaimed political series, House of Cards, you would understand that beneath the buttoned-up, stuffy and uptight exterior that is D.C., Washington offers some of the edgiest, upscale and hottest places to see and be seen in, especially in the world of fashion, where exposure means everything.
And thanks to the brilliant leadership of Ean Williams, DCFW put on a elegant and classy show that both Frank and Claire Underwood would have approved of.
In true D.C. style, DCFW put on a networking show straight out of James Bond, with some of the most prominent bloggers, designers, models, agents and photographers the first night, before showing some of the hottest designs from emerging designers such as Generation Typo in the Emerging Designers Showcase and xxx, xxx and xxx in the finale during the International Fashion Couture Show.
