Ok, who here expected to see the Denver Broncos offense coming out and looking pretty darn good to start the season? Anyone? Didn’t think so. But they have indeed, and the unit has done plenty to help the defense get the club to a 3-0 record, including last week’s win in Cincinnati by the score of 29-17. This week the club takes to the road once again, heading to Florida to take on the 1-2 Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Broncos ranked fourth in the league in points scored this season. Sure some of that has come from the defense, but still, the offense has been better than anyone expected this year. CJ Anderson opened the season hot, but last week passed the torch on to quarterback Trevor Siemian. Anderson does not have an easy task this week, as the Bucs do possess a pretty solid run defense. Todd Gurley did have a nice game last week against Tampa on the ground, but Anderson is not exactly on the same level as Gurley. So the team will likely need to rely a bit on Siemian if they want to pull this one out on the road.
As a whole, the Bucs defense has been underwhelming, however, as the club has allowed 24, 40 and 37 points in their opening three weeks. And last week that 37 points came against the Rams, who had not scored a touchdown in the opening two weeks. That means the club is going to need quarterback Jameis Winston to step up and perform in this one. Winston has had some success in the air this season, averaging over 300 yards a game. Coming off two defeats, the Bucs will surely be looking to right the ship at home.
I really want to put my faith in Tampa here, as they are getting points at home. That right there is usually enough to persuade me to take a team in a game that I do not have a great feel for. But I will be honest. I simply have a gut feel the Broncos continue their winning ways in this one, as Winston will have some trouble with the Broncos defense.
