Once again, swimming with whale sharks is completely safe; however, you must adhere to some regulations such as maintaining a 6-foot distance from their head and 12-foot distance from their tail. With crystal-clear waters for snorkeling or just lazing around in, cenotes make the ideal location to dive or just unwind in peace and serenity. There are dozens of incredible cenotes to explore; each offering unique characteristics.

Swimming pool cenotes are open and semi-enclosed structures above the ground that allow sunlight to filter in through their roof, known as “swimming pool cenotes.” Others are underground with multiple levels to enter them requiring you to descend stairs before reaching their entrance; these are known as cave cenotes. And some mix both concepts by having some parts open above ground while some lie undersea level.

Cenotes offer some of the best conditions for exploration between April and May when weather conditions are warm, dry and tourist numbers are at their lowest levels. This means that you can explore these stunning underwater chambers in relative peace while the ocean remains tranquil allowing easy photo taking and exploration opportunities.
