You can’t have a successful show without a captivating performance from your lead actor. That’s something the folks at Marvel and Netflix knew when they set out to cast the role of Daredevil.

Luckily, they have succeeded in just that, because Charlie Cox is truly a unique talent.

Cox might be best known for his recent work on the Academy Award-nominated film, The Theory Of Everything. His performance as Johnathan Hellyer Jones earned him significant praise from film critics across the world.

If you haven’t seen Theory Of Everything, then you might recognize Cox from his 23-episode stint on HBO’s hit show Boardwalk Empire. He was also featured in the 2007 film, Stardust.

At the onset of the Daredevil project, Marvel Chief Creative Officer, Joe Quesada, pegged Cox as the perfect fit for the role of Matt Murdock. However, the British-born actor wasn’t entirely on board. Although, after he read through the scripts there was a sudden change of heart.

“These are the best two scripts I ever read,” said Cox.

To fully embrace the role of Matt Murdock, Cox spent time with a blind consultant to copy the mannerisms of a blind man. He also hit the gym, because being a superhero requires a serious amount of dedication.

“The way he’s drawn, he taller than I am and heavier, more muscular. So I had to add a lot of gym work to get in the ballpark, but what a thrill.”

So far, feedback on the show has been positive. Critics are raving about Charlie Cox, which is good, because knowing Marvel, Daredevil will be around for a long time.
