Each week of the NFL season this column will give you tips on “off the radar” low budget sleepers for your Daily Fantasy Football League and bye week coverage players. You will not find Gronkowski, Rodgers, Newton, or any other fantasy stud recommended here. Everybody can say they will bust out this week and be correct most of the time. This is strictly for people looking for an edge with a minimum price tag and potential for a big game. Here you will find names that will make or break your day but will be played in less than 25 percent of leagues.
Only one player per each of the main offensive categories will be selected with an occasional Defense, or Kicker tossed in.
As always, feedback is welcome and encouraged. Dollar figures per FanDuel.
Quarterback- Robert Griffin III- Cleveland
Yes, he’s back… and with a cupcake the first opponent. Philadelphia in 2015 was horrible on the defensive side of the ball. They gave up the 3rd most points allowed and were in the bottom half of the league in sacks. RGIII is a bargain at $6,900.
Prediction: 250 yds passing 2 TDs and 35 rushing yds
Running Back- Terrance West- Baltimore
The starter by default as Kenneth Dixon went down with a knee injury and Justin Forsett being released for the time being leaves West to grab carries and goal line work while Javorious Allen will be the third down back.A minimal price tag of $4,700 is worth the gamble.
Prediction: 17 carries 85 yds 1TD 3 rec. 28 yds.
Wide Receiver- Will Fuller- Houston
You have to look to about WR60 to find his name in Yahoo Leagues predictions. All he has done is turn in a preseason line of 8 rec. 144 yds and 2TDs. Couple that with QB Brock Osweiler raving about his work ethic and speed and you have a recipe for a fantastic sleeper opportunity. A very under priced $5,600 could be fantasy gold this week.
Prediction- 4 rec. 75 yds 1TD
Tight End- Zack Ertz- Philadelphia
Always the crap shoot, the TE spot is deeper this year than it has been in some time. The top three- Gronkowski, Olsen, and Reed are on a different level than the rest, and any given week a lower tier guy can give you a huge advantage in your league or game.
At $5,700, Ertz will play a major role in Week One with the Eagles naming rookie Carson Wentz the starter. I foresee a lot of check down tosses to the TE safety valve this week against a Browns secondary that has Joe Haden on Philly’s top WR.
Prediction- 7 rec. 78 yds 1 TD
