Some games I like to play the home team card, and this one is going to be one of those games. The Seattle Seahawks fly from their nest in the Pacific North West down to the Southeast as they take on the New Orleans Saints in Gatorland USA. The Seahawks are coming off a tie against the Arizona Cardinals in week seven in Arizona. The Saints on the other hand suffered a defeat in Kansas City a week ago.
The Seahawks may hold a 4-1-1 record and first place in the NFC West, but I am still not buying in. Every time I watch them play, I leave feeling unimpressed. Last week was just the latest example of that, as they somehow managed to hang in the game with Arizona despite not being in control at any point. The week before they nearly lost to the Falcons at home, but somehow they squeaked out a two point win. Two of their three road games thus far has seen the team score 9 combined points. Their only solid road performance came against the Jets, so does it really count?
As for the Saints, they tend to perform better at home. Especially offensively. In three home games, they have scored a combined 107 points. Drew Brees and the gang simply click when they play in the Superdome. Unfortunately the defense has not gotten that memo though, as they have surrendered 118 points while at home. But their defense is not that great at home or away, so that is no surprise. They get to face a team that tends to struggle scoring on the road, but this will likely be more like the Jets game for Seattle. The Saints play high scoring affairs down in the bayou, and I don’t expect anything different this go round.
But I do think an upset is possible. Despite being 2-4, the home Saints can certainly take down the road Seahawks. Add on three extra points, and I have to go against Seattle on the road, while also taking the over.
