Serhiy Tokarev, an IT entrepreneur and the initiator of STEM is FEM, has announced the launching of the country’s first STEM ecosystem in Ukraine. STEM is FEM, an educational initiative aimed at empowering Ukrainian girls in science and technology, and will become the base for the ecosystem that will seek to create a supportive network that champions education, mentorship, and career advancement in STEM fields.
Since its inception in 2019, STEM is FEM has been dedicated to breaking down barriers and providing equal opportunities for Ukrainian girls to explore and excel in STEM – science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. To reach this goal, Serhiy Tokarev and the project’s team have organized various initiatives, including the innovative art project SHE is SCIENCE and educational series such as “Urbanism.” These efforts have not only showcased the achievements of Ukrainian women in STEM but also inspired the next generation to pursue careers in these fields.
Now, with the launch of the STEM ecosystem, Serhiy Tokarev aims to take this mission to a new level. The ecosystem will serve as a hub for collaboration, bringing together organizations, mentors, and aspiring Ukrainian young women passionate about STEM. Through a range of activities, including webinars, online and offline workshops, lectures, and courses, participants will have the opportunity to expand their knowledge, develop essential skills, and explore various career paths.
Central to the ecosystem’s vision is the emphasis on mentorship. Serhiy Tokarev believes that mentorship plays a crucial role in guiding individuals through their STEM journey. That is why the STEM is FEM team is launching a mentoring program to provide personalized support to those young ladies who choose a STEM career. By connecting participants with experienced professionals in the field, the program aims to nurture talent and foster a culture of collaboration and growth.
Elizaveta Korenko, the head of STEM is FEM, envisions a future where the ecosystem empowers thousands of young Ukrainian women. With over five years of impactful work, STEM is FEM has already engaged more than 500 girls in its activities. Now, with the launch of the ecosystem, the goal is to unite 1,000 young Ukrainian women this year alone, with ambitious aspirations to reach 10,000 by 2030. Through the STEM is FEM Community, Alumni STEM is FEM Club, and STEM is FEM Teachers Platform, participants will have access to tailored support and resources to help them thrive in STEM fields.
As the ecosystem takes shape, Serhiy Tokarev and his team are focused on ensuring its sustainability and effectiveness. Regular meetings, educational programs, internships, and collaborations with experts and institutions will be key to nurturing a dynamic and inclusive STEM community in Ukraine. By fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and mentorship, the STEM ecosystem led by Serhiy Tokarev is poised to make a lasting impact on the future of STEM in Ukraine.
