When you’ve got sore knees, it can be difficult to know what to do to stay fit. You won’t want to compromise your fitness routine, but you do want to workout in a way that doesn’t agitate your knees. Maybe you have always had bad knees, or they have come about due to working out. This is the only guide you need to help you feel great when working out again:

Give Yourself Time To Recover

If you’ve recently hurt your knees, then make sure you’ve given yourself enough time to recover. Exercising too soon after a knee injury could lead to further injury, which will just stop you from exercising for a longer period of time. If you’re unsure of how long to give yourself, make sure you see a doctor, therapist, or somebody who can give you some informed advice.

Make Sure You’re Using Correct Form

When you do begin exercising again, ensuring that you’re using the correct form is an absolute must. If you don’t, you can end up injuring your knees and just about anywhere else on your body. If you’re unsure, there are so many YouTube tutorials and things out there that can give you great instruction and clue you in. If you’re still unsure, see a professional for a session and see if one to one helps you. If you’re a member of a gym, a member of staff should be able to give you a bit of advice if you need it.

Avoid Exercises That May Inflame The Knees Too Much

If you have a big problem with your knees, then you may need to avoid exercises that inflame your knees. This will likely vary from person to person. For some, squats inflame their knees. For others, running. For some, any with a smith machine. Avoid these exercises if they cause you pain, especially if you’re using proper form with them. There’s good pain, and bad pain, so make sure you know the difference.

Make The Most of Low Impact Exercise

Low impact exercise is an incredible way to keep your knees and the rest of you in good shape. It doesn’t put a lot of pressure on your joints, but can help you to stay fit and happy. Swimming and walking are two great examples of low impact exercise.

Wear The Right Clothing

Wearing the right clothing for your workouts is a must, and will keep you safe and comfortable. Make sure you know what to wear for your own individual workout. You should be able to stay a nice temperature, avoid tripping and getting caught, and feel comfortable. You may want accessories too, such as a knee sleeve to keep you even more comfortable.

Keep Your Weight Under Control

For every pound we put on, we put even more pressure on our knees. Make sure you know your ideal weight for your height and age, and keep it under control. You can do this by eating the right foods and using exercise to help you.

Warm It Up and Stretch It Out

Warm up using dynamic exercises before you begin working out. Then, once you’re finished, stretch out all of your muscles. This will keep you more flexible and fitter in the long run. You don’t want achy muscles that feel sore and tight all of the time!
