LAS VEGAS, NV – Less than 24 hours after helping lead the Kansas City Chiefs to their fourth Super Bowl championship, and third in the last five years, Super Bowl MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes is hungry for more.
In addressing the media Monday morning at the Mandalay Hotel, Mahomes seemed to emphasize the Chiefs already making plans to run it back and go for the first-ever three-peat, calling it “legendary” in the modern Super Bowl era, and that all players are already making plans to get back to work.
Thanks to completing 34-of-46 passes for 333 yards and two touchdowns, including the game winner to Mecole Hardman in overtime, the Chiefs now become the seventh team to win back-to-back titles, and the first since the 2003-04 New England Patriots.
At the still young age of 28, and plenty of time left to pass seven-time champion Tom Brady, it’s safe to say that Mahomes is well on his way. In receiving the Pete Rozelle Trophy, awarded to the Super Bowl LVIII MVP, Mahomes ties Joe Montana and trails only Brady, who has five.
Despite vanquishing the Niners for the second time in five years, San Francisco has already opened as early +500 with Kansas City at +650. There are many factors to consider such as, the age of Andy Reid, the Travis Kelce-Taylor Swift “it” couple distraction, and whether or not WR’s Mecole Hardman, Rashee Rice, Justin Watson and Marquez Valdes-Scantling can continue to develop as dependable targets.
What about Isiah Pacheco and Clyde Edwards-Helaire? Can they co-exist in the same backfield with even greater scrutiny? Lastly, what about DT Chris Jones? Will he be around to help lead the defense?
All of these questions will need to be answered in the off-season by the Chiefs at some point. If they are answered correctly, then expect to see them standing on the winner’s podium once again down in the Superdome at Super Bowl LIX.
