Houston Texans rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud continues to impress.
Today Stroud set an NFL record for rookie quarterbacks by throwing for 470 yards against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Most impressively he led the Texans on a 6-play 75 yard game winning touchdown drive in 40 seconds. Tank Dell a rookie wider receiver made his presence known on that drive as well catching two passes for 41 yards and the touchdown.
Houston was not able to get its run game going, only 18 carries for 53 yards. So Stroud threw 42 times and completed 30 passes, with five going for t0uchdowns. He had two wide receievers and a tight end go over 100 yards receiving, the aforementioned Dell had 114 yards and two touchdowns, Noah Brown 153 yards on six catches with one being a 75 yard touchdown, and Dalton Schultz led the way with 10 receptions and 130 yards, his only blemish was losing a fumble.
Stroud’s performance also got the attnetion of another quarterback who played in Houston, Warren Moon who tweeted this:
Wow @CJ7STROUD!
A record setting performance today: 470 yds, 5 TDs, and more importantly- a come from behind win over Tampa Bay!
You are off to a fantastic start, and the sky is the limit for you! I’m really proud of you!

That statement from Moon has got to feel good. Stroud in 2023 has already helped the Texans surpass their win total from 2022, with four. Still even more impressive is the lack of interceptions thrown, only one so far. He has thrown for 14 touchdowns as well and 2,270 yards.
Also, there was a question posed about Stroud if he is the best quarterback to come out of Ohio State in the last 20 years? Excluding Joe Burrow who transferred to Louisiana State University, the answer is yes. Can make the argument in the school’s history.
Looking forward to next week for Stroud he arguably has his toughest test since week one, the Cincinnati Bengals on the road.
