Working in general is not always a pleasant activity, however, sometimes stress makes us worry too much. Almost every day we are faced with responsibilities and obligations that must be fulfilled as an employee. These demands and targets can often lead to stress.

Apart from that, it is not uncommon for workers to be stressed due to excessive anxiety. Many worries come to your mind every day. This excessive worry takes a lot of energy and thoughts for something we can actually avoid. To understand how to avoid experiencing excessive worry, you need to first understand what are the situations that can be stressor factors. Find out what those are and how to manage them below!

1.  Worried about deadlines

The most common cause of excessive anxiety in the office is anxiety because of deadlines. With the targets and responsibilities we have, we often feel afraid of missing the specified deadline. Instead of setting the right way to complete the task according to the deadline, it’s not uncommon for us to think about the worst things that can happen due to missing deadlines.

Take a deep breath and thoroughly review the things you haven’t done yet. Ask yourself, what work do you still have to complete, where can you start, and is there anyone else you can ask for help to complete your work before the deadline?

If you really can’t finish on time, don’t punish yourself and think too much about it.  Don’t stress yourself too much, because this won’t help you to improve yourself in the future. Instead of worrying too much, try setting a deadline for yourself 1-2 days earlier than you should at your next job.  In this way, you can train yourself to complete the work before the specified deadline.

2.  Fear of not being liked by colleagues

Having good friends at work definitely can help to make your days at the office more enjoyable. On the other hand, working with people who don’t like us is indeed something that can be annoying and tiring.

Before you assume and start worrying too much, don’t forget to re-analyze all the possibilities in a positive way. You need to remember that everyone has their communication style. It could be, someone does not like small talk when communicating or sending emails. But, that doesn’t mean the person doesn’t like you.

But if in case, there is a coworker who doesn’t like you personally, then you should not worry about it too much either. After all, you can’t force everyone to like you. The best thing you can do is to work professionally with everyone in the office and try to avoid unnecessary conflicts.

3.  Worried of not appearing competent

Being active and pitching ideas to co-workers can be quite intimidating. Especially if you are still a new member of the team. Thus, worrying about looking incompetent in the new team is a quite natural feeling.

However, that doesn’t mean that this can be a reason for you to worry too much. Don’t let your worries become a barrier to growth. If you feel you have an interesting idea that could benefit your team, don’t hesitate to share it. Try to read the situation and analyze the way your team communicates. Don’t be afraid to give your opinion, especially if you have a solid foundation to support your idea.

If later your opinion or idea is rejected by the team, don’t be sad and anxious. Make it a lesson for the next opportunity.

4.  Fear of making mistakes

This is pretty much the most common reason why people experience excessive anxiety. This can happen at work as well as in everyday life. The key to avoiding this worry is to understand that everyone, whether new to a field or a professional, will make mistakes.

Excessive worry, because you are afraid of making mistakes, is pointless because it’s natural for human beings to make mistakes, after all, we are not perfect. What you should do instead, is to ensure you can minimize these errors. In work, before doing or deciding something try to analyze and ask questions. Never be afraid to seek answers, especially for things that still doubt you.

If an unavoidable error occurs while you are doing your work, then stop worrying too much and evaluate yourself at the next opportunity. By making mistakes, you can learn to avoid them and do better in future jobs.

Worry, fear, and anxiety are not things that can be easily avoided in everyday life. What you can do is realize that this feeling is a natural thing. Rather than ignoring these worries and fears, it is better to understand and face them. You can share what you feel with other people to help you relieve excess anxiety.
