A few days ago Papa Roach released the music video for “Leave a Light On (Talk Away The Dark)” and it has already received over 100,000 views on YouTube. More importantly there is a note that shows an initial donation of $155,000 was made to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) and more importantly anytime the song is streamed, downloaded, or used in any way a donation is also made.

On Sirius XM Octane there is an interview about the song and what it means prior to it being played and it is also a must-listen when it comes to the explanation. Which is also one of the reasons why The Inscriber Magazine found it necessary to react to “Leave a Light On (Talk Away The Dark).”

Before the song starts there’s a message that states “suicide is a topic that hides in the shadows. It’s time we Talk away the dark.” We all can play a role in keeping ourselves, and the people in our lives, safe. Let’s ‘leave a light on’ for each other by learning how to Talk away the dark.”

Once again it is great to see bands take on the topic of mental health. The lyrics to the chorus are incredibly powerful which include “it’s not like me, to worry. But when I see you fading in the dark, I’ll leave a light on for you. Through the long nights, I will be right there for you if you drift too far. I’ll leave a light on for you. You. You.”

It is also a great reminder to pay attention to those around you. If you notice something, say something. You never know what one is going through until you make the effort. Sometimes it may take a little push to get them there.

You will become that light for that person. Someone who is safe, someone that they can confide in, and more importantly get them the help they need.

If you have not listened to the song yet here it is.
