All You Need to Know About AIBE Exam

AIBE or All India Bar Examination is an entrance exam conducted by the Bar Council of India (BCI) for law graduates who want to start practising law in India. AIBE is conducted in 40+ cities in national and regional languages.

The primary objective of AIBE is to evaluate a member’s fundamental knowledge and establish a minimum benchmark for entering the legal practice, while also assessing their analytical skills. 

 

Upon successfully clearing the AIBE examination, candidates will receive a Certificate of Practice (CoP), making them eligible to practise law in any court in India.

AIBE Eligibility Criteria

 

The AIBE eligibility criteria mandatory for appearing for the exam and receiving your certification are described below:

 

  • To be eligible for the AIBE exam, one has to complete an LLB or related graduation degree in the legal field from a recognised institute approved by the Bar Council of India. 
  • Along with that, one must have a minimum 40% marks in the final degree examination (General and OBC category) and 35% marks (SC/ST/PwD category)
  • The individuals appearing for the exam must be registered with their respective State Bar Councils.
  • There is no age limit to appear for the exam.

Stages Involved in AIBE Exam Process

There are various stages involved in the AIBE exam journey. To get the certificate of practice, it is very important to complete each and every stage of the exam. The stages are as follows:

 

  • Registration Process- Firstly, the candidates have to register for the AIBE exam by completing the application form, providing essential documents and paying the application fees.
  • Admit Card Availability- Next, students have to download their admit card available on the official website of the exam conducting body. They admit the card is a very essential document that is to be necessarily carried to the exam center as without it nobody will be allowed to give the exam.
  • Conduct of Entrance Exam- Then, the candidate has to appear for the exam which will be conducted in an off-line mode for a duration of 3 hours and 30 minutes. There will be 100 questions for a total of 100 marks.  
  • Release of Answer Key- After a few days of entrance exam, the official website would release the answer key, from where individuals can get an idea of how much marks he/ she will be getting, they will be able to analyze their performance in the entrance exam.
  • Result Declaration/ Cutoff Scores- Finally, the results will be declared along with the scorecard for each candidate, who had appeared for the examination.
