Bessy Adut

Today we’re joined by Bessy Adut, the founder and creator of Searching for Goodness—an independent documentary and media series exploring human stories, creativity, and positive impact around the world. What began as a personal search has grown into a multi-season journey, now reaching 49 episodes across YouTube and major podcast platforms. Through honest conversations and real-world storytelling, Searching for Goodness highlights people and ideas that remind us of the goodness that exists all around us.

What was the moment or feeling that first sparked the idea for Searching for Goodness?

Bessy Adut: It really started during a time when the world felt heavy—personally and collectively. I noticed how much negativity dominated the news and social media, and I felt this deep pull to slow down and intentionally look for the good that still existed. Searching for Goodness began as a personal journey before it ever became a series.

Before this became a series, what did “goodness” personally mean to you—and how has that definition evolved?

Bessy Adut: At first, goodness felt like something quiet and simple—small acts of kindness, moments of connection. Over time, I’ve learned that goodness is also courageous. It’s people choosing empathy, creativity, and love even when it’s hard. That deeper understanding has shaped every episode.

As the project grew into two seasons and 49 episodes, what surprised you most about the stories people were willing to share?

Bessy Adut: I’ve been surprised by how open and vulnerable people are when given a safe space. Many guests share parts of themselves they’ve never spoken about publicly. It’s shown me how much people are longing to be seen and heard beyond surface-level conversations.

You’ve featured artists, scientists, activists, and everyday people—what common thread do you see in all of them?

Bessy Adut: They all care deeply. Even though their paths are different, they’re driven by purpose and a desire to contribute something meaningful. That shared intention is what connects every story we tell.

What kind of messages from viewers and listeners have stayed with you the most?

Bessy Adut: Messages where people say the series helped them feel less alone really stay with me. Some viewers tell us an episode gave them hope during a difficult season of their lives. Knowing the stories resonate on that level makes everything worth it.

Creating a project rooted in hope isn’t always easy—what challenges did you face, and what kept you going?

Bessy Adut: There were moments of doubt, exhaustion, and financial uncertainty. Being an independent project means wearing many hats. What kept me going was the mission—and the audience. Every encouraging message felt like confirmation to keep going.

What does reaching 49 episodes and the Season 2 finale represent to you personally?

Bessy Adut: It represents consistency, faith, and growth. Each episode is a step in a much bigger journey. Hitting this milestone reminds me that something meaningful can grow when you stay committed, even when the path isn’t clear.

Looking ahead, what excites you most about the future of Searching for Goodness?

Bessy Adut: I’m excited about expanding globally—traveling, capturing stories across cultures, and eventually creating a feature-length documentary and television series. The vision has always been bigger than just a podcast or YouTube show.

Why do you believe storytelling is such a powerful force for love and connection right now?

Bessy Adut: Stories remind us of our shared humanity. When we listen deeply to others, it breaks down fear and division. Storytelling has the power to soften hearts and open minds in ways few other things can.

As the series grows, how can collaborators, creatives, and brands be part of this journey?

Bessy Adut: We’re currently inviting early creatives, students, and collaborators who want to support and grow alongside the project, as well as brands and sponsors interested in meaningful partnerships aligned with purpose-driven storytelling. At its heart, Searching for Goodness is about impact over noise, and we’re excited to collaborate with people and organizations who believe in authentic stories and helping them reach a wider audience.
