You have probably heard the hit song that has been sweeping the charts in 2017. It is Despacito, which is performed by Daddy Yankee and Luis Fonsi on the original version. On the remix that has been on top of the charts for the last few months, they get help from Justin Bieber. It has been around since January of 2017 and continues to be one of the top hits on the radio.
However, what makes this song so catchy is the fact that it has not lost any popularity. In my opinion, you need to look at three things. For starters, it has a tune that just sticks in your head. The tune is one that is very easy to remember and that is very helpful. Second, the mixture of the Latin music makes you think of Puerto Rico. It seems that many of the “Summer hits” have a touch of Latin music. Third, it reminds you of the summer. When you hear the song on YouTube, Spotify, or wherever you get your music from; the first thoughts are summer.

Even someone like myself, who mostly listens to rock music, pretty much listens to this song a few times a day between it being played on the radio and on Spotify. While the song has done well on the radio, it has also seen other benefits come from it. For instance, it is now being reported that Daddy Yankee is now the Number One artist on Spotify. He unseated Ed Sheeran. Why this is major is that Daddy Yankee is now the first Latino musician to hold that spot. You can go through the list of Latin singers over the years with Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin, Enrique and none of them have achieved what Daddy Yankee has been able to accomplish.
Another benefit from the song is that there is now a huge amount of interest in Puerto Rico. There happens to be a lot of mention of it in the song and apparently it has been doing wonders for the area. According to the Un Nuevo Dia, there has been an increase of about 45% of interest from tourists. This even helps after Puerto Rico announced bankruptcy earlier in 2017. This song came out and it seems that isn’t a problem anymore.
Pretty much, this song has been doing wonders for the Latin music genre, the singers involved in the song, and the area of Puerto Rico. If you haven’t heard the song, here it is:
