The quest continues for the Cleveland Browns. After suffering a heartbreaking loss in overtime in Miami, after a missed field goal at the end of regulation, the Browns will head to the Nation’s capital. There they will take be taking on the Washington Redskins, who are coming off their first win of the season after knocking off divisional rival New York Giants 29-27 last week.
The interesting thing with the Redskins thus far this season is both of their losses have come at home, and their one win came on the road. So now they are back at home but get the luxury of facing one of the worst teams in the NFL. The team has had issues punching the ball in the end-zone, but luckily for them, kicker Dustin Hopkins has been absolute money. He is 11 for 11 on field goal attempts this year and has been called on so often thanks to Kirk Cousins’ inability to punch the ball in for six points.
Meanwhile, the Browns have been rotating quarterbacks each week thanks to injury. Finally, they will have a man under center for the second straight week as rookie Cody Kessler will make the start. The Browns have seen their point total increase with each passing week, and with Kessler, under center, they hung in with Miami last week. Granted Miami just has not looked very good this season, but the Browns should have had a win last week on the road. The only reason they lost was because Cody Parkey missed three field goals. Surprisingly he is still on their roster.
So while I do not love the Browns by any means, they at least showed some life against a sub-par team on the road. Well, they are once again on the road against a sub-par team, who are coming off a divisional win and have struggled at home. So call me crazy, but the Browns seem to be the pick here given the Redskins are laying over a touchdown. And given the defenses are not very good on either end, I have to opt with it being a higher scoring affair.
Line: Was -8, O/U: 45.5
Pick: Browns and the over
Result: Was 31- Cle 20, Redskins and the over
