Miami Dolphins free agents

With the legal tampering period underway, the 2017 free agent period will begin Thursday. As of 4 pm, teams will be able to announce which ever contracts they’ve been able to negotiate. For Dolphins fans it will springboard them into days of panic. While the team had success last season there was a still the feeling too many holes were left to fill.

Even after the Dolphins traded for TE Julius Thomas, there still was a long way to go. Rumors of them going after a linebacker, guards, corners, defensive backs, and receiver were all on the table. There was even a rumor floating around that they were in the mix for Jay Cutler.

I’d be surprised if they did go after the troubled quarterback. However, just because he has ties to Adam Gase doesn’t mean he’s in the running. The Dolphins didn’t know the status of injured QB Ryan Tannehill when the rumors started. Now, it appears he won’t need surgery so his job seems secure.

Unofficially, on Wednesday the Dolphins were said to have deals with their current talent. The only officially unofficial signing is DE Andre Branch.

WR Kenny Stills is reportedly staying put.

LB Kiko Alonso is working out a long-term deal.

LB Lawrence Timmons will visit.

Right now those are nothing more than speculation. Sure, behind closed doors each party and their agent are trying to bang out deals. As of right now, they’re still working to get something on paper. Even then they won’t be a Dolphin until 4 pm Thursday.

Should the Dolphins sign Stills, Alonso, and Timmons it would be huge for the team. They’d get two solid linebackers. Stills would help keep continuity on offense. Throw in 2 guard positions in this free agency and Miami would be batting 1.000. But this is the NFL. Teams don’t get every player they go after or want keep in-house. Miami still has a lot of grinding to do. Stay tuned Dolfans, your new stars are coming.
