On Monday May 4th, Vanity Fair published pictures taken by Annie Liebowitz on the set of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Three particular images put to rest speculation as to the identity of three characters who have been shrouded in secrecy since production began.
The first of these three characters to be revealed was the masked Sith Lord, with the lightsaber featuring that wicked cross saber hilt. It turns out that Adam Driver will be channeling the dark side of the force as Rylo Ken. I, for one, can’t wait to see Driver in all his Sith Lord glory, unleashing his fury against The Rebellion.
The next to be revealed was Lupita Nyong’o’s C.G.I. character, known as Maz Kanata. Her picture only shows her face with the tracking dots, thus still leaving her character’s appearance a mystery. According to Vanity Fair, Maz Kanata is some sort of smuggler or pirate. And judging by another photo, featuring her cohorts, they seem the type one would find hanging out at The Mos Eisley Cantina.
Finally, Gwendoline Christie was confirmed to be playing the first female stormtrooper, or at least the first to actually be identified as female. Judging by her snazzy chrome armor, the character of Captain Phasma is some sort of elite trooper. It’s nice to see that gender equity actually existed “a long time ago in a galaxy far, far way”, especially for The Empire.
Vanity Fair’s Star Wars photo spread may satiate fans for a while, but only just. With a seven month wait until its December 18th release date, more set photos and new trailers would certainly be welcomed by the fans.
Very excited about this! Looks like this will kill!
