The Frisco RoughRiders, Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, take another extra innings loss Sunday night. The Corpus Christi Hooks walked-off the RoughRiders 2-1. The game-winning run was scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the 10th inning. Sunday’s loss was the fifth-straight for Frisco, who have lost eight of their last 10 matchups. The club now sits at 40-53 on the year, the worst record in the Texas League.
Texas Rangers top prospect Yohander Mendez took the mound to start the game. The 22-year-old left-handed pitcher tossed seven quality innings of baseball. He allowed just six hits and one run (earned) while walking one and striking out eight Hooks batters. Ricardo Rodriguez relieved Mendez and threw two innings of perfect baseball. He punched out three along the way. Clayton Cook ended up earning the decision, a loss, tossing just 1/3 of an inning before the game-winning run was scored.
Juremi Profar kept up his hot offensive performance as of late. The young infielder went 2-4 in the game. Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Jose Trevino each had a hit in the outing. Royce Bolinger rounded out the highlights for the RoughRiders offense. He went 1-4 with a double and scored the only run for Frisco. In total, the club hit 0-9 with runners in scoring position, leaving six men on base.
Corpus Christi, the affiliate of the Houston Astros, hit 1-5 with RISP, leaving five men on base. Only three Hooks players managed to get hits in the contest. The matchup was a pitcher’s duel true to form.
