Actor and emerging musical artist Mason McNulty delves into his powerful debut single, “DUST,” revealing it as a personal anthem of reclaiming independence after a toxic relationship. In this candid Q&A, McNulty explains how he channeled pain into resilience, aiming to instill hope with his message that “things will be okay and you matter.” He hints at a country-blues direction for his upcoming third single with Agina, promising a “beautiful and special” track. While aspiring to integrate his music into film and TV, McNulty emphasizes his commitment to creating a distinct musical identity that resonates with listeners seeking genuine expression and connection. He encourages fans of his acting work to explore this new artistic avenue, starting with the cathartic and relatable “DUST.”

  1. You’ve described “DUST” as being about reclaiming independence. What does that sense of independence mean to you personally, and how did you channel that into the song?

The sense of independence means so much. To tell the person who was such a narcissist that they can’t control me that I am taking it all back and looking for what I find to be a real relationship. I channeled it into the song as “Leaving you in the Dust!”

  1. The lyrics of “DUST” speak of overcoming a toxic past relationship. Could you share a little about the journey of transforming that pain into a message of resilience?

Yes, I transformed the toxic relationship journey into the song because not liking the way I was being treated and not letting someone else ever control how I am feeling. Not letting someone take something and turn it into something that they wanted to be toxic.

  1. Your artistry aims to instill hope and positivity. How do you see “DUST,” despite its difficult subject matter, contributing to this overall vision?

My artistry aims to instill hope and positivity for sure. The message I want the fans to know is not to allow someone to be a toxic person to you. That a relationship is both sides.

  1. You emphasize the message of “things will be okay and you matter.” How do you weave this sentiment into your music, and why is it so important for you to convey?

I weave that message into the song where I say Leaving you in the Dust. Basically, that I will not put up with someone being toxic or controlling. That my feelings and thoughts matter.

  1. You’re already in vocal production for your third single with Agina. Can you give us a little hint about the direction or themes we can expect from this next release?

LOL. The direction that we are going with the next song is more country blues. It is more about looking for my future someone.

  1. You described your upcoming third single as “beautiful and special.” What makes it stand out to you, and how does it build upon the foundation laid by your first two singles?

It stands out to me because it is nothing like what I have put out yet. The messages in the song I want people to feel is as if I am singing to them directly.

  1. As you continue to release music, what are your long-term aspirations for your music career?

My long-term aspiration for my music is to just keep writing and performing. I would LOVE to have my music used in movies or TV shows eventually.

8. Many actors who transition to music face certain perceptions. How do you hope to carve out your own unique identity and be recognized as a genuine musical artist?

Even though I would love to keep my music career and my acting career together, I also want to keep them separated. As music does give me the place I can escape with my thoughts and feelings.

9. Have any of your acting roles or experiences inspired specific musical ideas or themes?

Yes, I will be working on a song soon about the new upcoming movie I did in November, Billy the Kid, Blood and Legend. I am excited to start writing the song.

10. For fans who know you primarily from your acting work, what would you say to encourage them to explore your music, starting with “DUST”?

I would say, you won’t be disappointed. To please give it a listen, follow and share it with everyone. Music opens up so many different ways to express yourself and that I want people to be able to resonate with them.
