The Tennessee Titans have not made the playoffs since 2008, when they lost to the Baltimore Ravens in the 2nd round. Since then, the Titans have gone through three head coaches, seven starting quarterbacks, and a lot more downs than ups.
They finally have a franchise quarterback in Marcus Mariota, who is starting to turn the corner as an NFL player. The Titans have finally put significant weapons around Mariota, to make the Titans exciting this season. The Titans picked by many to be favored to win this season’s AFC South division.
There is no doubt of the competition in the division, from the likes of the Houston Texans (last season’s winner) and the upstart Jacksonville Jaguars. We won’t even include the Indianapolis Colts who are imploding right now.
This coming Sunday, the Titans play the Houston Texans in the first of two meetings this season. The Texans are playing the rookie quarterback in Deshaun Watson, who has impressed the football world so far.
This won’t be an easy game for the Titans, who in the past has had the Titans number in the last few seasons. In sports, the only way to get better as a franchise is to beat the team in your division that you cannot stand. This will be the first true test for the Titans, as they drive to end their long playoff drought since the Jeff Fisher days.
However, the Texans have a great defense led by the likes of J.J. Watt and Jadeavon Clowney.
So, it’s time for the Titans to really be contenders in the AFC. However the AFC is mostly wide open outside the New England Patriots, other than that it is a crap shoot. As of now, the Titans are not ready to play the Patriots yet at all. It may take a couple of seasons of great play to be a factor among the elite.
So good luck to the Titans, and hope they come out victorious against the Texans.
