DETROIT – What does one do after a long day and night of College Basketball? A day of rest and then more College Basketball.
As mentioned in March Madness Memo Day two, I got back to my room in Taylor about 1:00am on Saturday morning. When I left Little Caesars Arena around midnight there were still people in the streets of Detroit and the roads especially I-94 had plenty of traffic.
Why was I stopped by the Taylor Police on Telegraph Road? The officer said to me I was weaving and starting to drift into the center line and he was right I was pretty tired. I am just glad I didn’t hit anyone or get a ticket.
I don’t remember when I got up so I went and gassed up the Avalon as I had not done so since I left Brecksville. Then to the local Meijer (same pronunciation, no relation) for a sandwich and some potato salad and some noshes for watching all the basketball.
I did not go up to the press conferences at Little Caesars Arena. I watched them on the streaming video and got the transcripts in my inbox.
The rest of the day, I was working doing my notes and preparing for the Sunday games. Doing all my research especially on the game between Michigan State and Syracuse the matchup of Tom Izzo and Jim Boeheim will be a delight just as a fan to cover it.
I am not slighting the first game which is Butler and Purdue battling for bragging rights in the state of Indiana. The winner of Sparty-Orange get Duke the way they are going especially today with the beat down of a pretty good Rhode Island team.
I am not ashamed that Buffalo lost to Kentucky by 20. When you face a team like that if you don’t stay with them you will get blown out and that is what happened to Nate Oats and the Bulls. It was the MAC’s first win since John Groce and Ohio defeated Michigan and South Florida to reach the sweet 16 in St. Louis before falling to North Carolina in overtime.
I grabbed a little dinner and then went to the Office Depot down the street here in the town of Woodhaven to make some copies of my notes.
The rest of the night is sleep and an early wakeup call as the first game here is set of 12:10 (Butler-Purdue)
Hope everyone is well…is enjoying the basketball as well as my MARCH MADNESS MEMO…take care
E.
